I had a waterbirth with DD and it is definitely something worth trying if you get the opportunity. I think the water and warmth took away some of the pain and made me more relaxed. Every time the midwife monitored the baby, I'd pray the baby was okay - for her own safety and also so I wouldn't have to get out of the bath!! :)

I'm so jealous! i desperately wanted a waterbirth but they wouldn't let me because bubs was too big....i spent most of the time in the shower so technically it was a waterbirth...maybe . i too found it water to be very calming and its the best pain releif.

I have no other children so nothing to compare it to but I definitely wanted to stay in the bath - my own little space, I guess.

It was still excruciating though - possibly because the labour was very quick. It must be different for different people - nothing like those pleasant birth videos I watched!!

Never heard of a baby being too big as a reason not to birth in water. On the contrary, I think giving birth in water to a big baby would make it easier! 10, 11, 12 pounds, no worries ;) as Jarrahsmumma said, our bodies don't grow babies that we can't birth.

My 1st was born in the water, my second I laboured in the water and delivered on land. both times I only had minor tearing. with Sarah I had stitches, with Em I didn't. Have recommended it to almost every1 I know!

Hospital Birth Centre. That way if we had any major complications we could quickly b transferred. I had menconium in the water both times but delivered within minutes of having them broken

I had water births for my 2 kids (#1. 10/11/02 & #2 6/6/04) - at Selangor Private hospital on the Sunshine Coast, Qld.

Didn't plan it that way, it just happened. I loved them though :) Didn't have any drugs, or gas or anything. I highly recommend water births :)

I had a 22 minute labour with my 2nd, so only just got in the bath - was on auto pilot really, as didn't really need to get into the water - I was just following my instincts.

I am 6 months pregnant with #3 and now in Perth - I'm trying to decide where to have #3 .......

I had a planned water birth with my daughter. The midwife at ante natal classes told me i was crazy for wanting a water birth.

It was a beautiful experience, i'll definatley do it again.

Funnily enough when we went back to the ante natal class to catch up after everyone had given bith, I was the only one that laboured exactly how they planned.

Jo good luck with future waterbirths. I will aim for another water birth with #3 but #2 had to b born on land. Labouring in water is as helpful as birthing in water bcoz the water elasticises u and if bub is born not long after getting out u still get the benefits of the water. I tore less with #2 than #1 who was born in the water.
