Okies so I'm thinking about investing in some AIO's and I have a few questions...

1) what are the best brands (there are so many)
2) where is the best places to buy them
3) What should I consider when buying an AIO
4) With summer coming along, will AIO be too warm (i live in WA) and uncomfortable
5) Are they worth the cost, will they last long enough as in size and durability.
6) How many should I get

My baby boy is 10 weeks and around 6kg

Hi there

Is there any particular reason why you are just after AIO's?

because I thought they would be easier...

Ahhh that makes sense.
Yep, they can be easier but some also take longer to dry.
You could try some pockets too (you just stuff them to what ever absorbancy you need).
The AIO's I have tried on my girls are Cherubs Kiss Honeyboy! AIO and Bubblebubs AIO's. Both are great.
Tomorrow I will trying an Itti Bitti AI2 (all in two - the inner snaps in to the shell making it quicker to dry).

There are heaps of pockets to try.
I love the Bumgenius pockets as they are a one size fits most and are stuffed with microfibre.

A lot of girls here recommend Greenkids pockets too.

I am certainly no expert but feel free to ask heaps of questions and I will certainly try to assist.

If you want some website links let me know.

Firstly Pocket are just as easy

To answer your questions
#1 i love my Green kids and Baby behinds(mind you thats all I've tried apart from pea pods)
#2 I got mine from there web site but you can sometimes get them for ebay ect... but i found there not much cheaper
#3 with all MCN consider what you need with them EG cover inserts boosters ect...
#4 The ones i have are just as good as disposables
#5 They are well worth the cost and if you get a one size EG magic alls baby behind they will fit till your bub is toilet trained
# i my self would suggest 3-4 to start with of different brands to find the best one for you and bubs. And to make sure you like them before you spend to much money(mind you i have found once you start buying you cant stop its addictive:laughing: )

I do no that Baby beehinds had a special for i think it was 5-6 nappies for $77 down from $120 I think but you will have to have a look.

I still do sposies at night and when out as well as terry flats with a PUL till i get my MCN stash up.
I to am no expert and there are girls here that probably can help more than i can but i gave it a go

Pm me is you want

Hey welcome,
As the other posters said, once stuffed Pockets are just as easy as AIOs. The bonus with them is they are also quicker drying and you can stuff them with whatever is going.
Some good AIOs are bubblebubs and bum genius, but they are the only ones I've tried as I'm mostly a pockets girl. (other than magic-alls but they don't work for us)
There are some great MCN websites out there. Try Nurture nappies, darlings downunder, baby soft landings, baby blossom, nappy bucket, weewuns.... caryn has just restocked her bubblebubs website lastnight
Things to look for in an AIO is do they contain bamboo, hemp or microfibre (in that order) because it'll make the nappy more absorbant.
An AIO is going to be a LOT less hot than a plastic disposable on your childs bum  but you'll probably find a Bumgenius AIO which is trim and light is going to be cooler than something that is minky or fleecy. I live in FNQ and it's already HOT and bub shows no signs heat rash even in the thicker nappies.
And yes MCNs are definately worth the cost! You can get several years out of MCNs and multiple children. You can also buy OSFA/M (one size fits all/most) nappies that will fit from birth to toilet trained.. . tho most of these are pockets or fitteds.
You will end up needing about 24, but should be able to get by with about 15 if your washing every day. Start off just getting a few different ones and types, maybe a pocket and an AIO to try out and see how you like them. Many websites offer trial packs.
Good luck and have fun shopping :)

The previous posts have given you loads of info.

If you are still unsure have a look at oz cloth nappies dot org, and there is a list of stores here (http://www.bubhub.com.au/shopsnappyproducts.php)

Fitteds are good for night time, when bubs usually wees the most. If you use a bamboo fitted with a wool cover it's the best combo absorbency wise for most people.

We use mostly pockets through the day because of drying time, or All in 2s.

All in one or 2
We have a Cherubs Kiss Honeyboy, a Bubblebubs, 2 x Berry Plush (because minky is just so damn fine), a Sunshine Tots

Fitteds
a few Baby Beehinds bamboo, a dream eze, a Bamboozle,

Pockets
2 x Green Kids
6 x Peapods - extreemly cheap, and good for building a stash, with a microfibre booster they work well
A Krap Catcher

The rest I've made myself, or recieved through swaps.

The best thing to do is get some and try them, if they don't work for you then it's pretty easy to sell them on to someone else.

We tried itty bittys, but found they weren't for use. All of my AIOs have to have extra boosting because my boys are heavy wetters. So pockets are easier because I can stuff them with the hemp insert and a booster inside the nappy, so the lining is smooth and easy to rinse

All of the nappies sold through the nappy stores have been tried and tested and should work well

I've only got 7 MCNs. 4 of them are Peapods pockets and I love them. I've got 2 baby beehinds bamboo fitteds and one baby beehinds wool cover which we use at night.

I think as I build my stash, I'm just going to get more and more pockets. I think they're really easy, but I haven't tried the others.

1) what are the best brands (there are so many)
I would suggest a Bubblebubs for a first timer.

2) where is the best places to buy them.
Bubblebubs or on ozebaby they have some on special because they are the hemp style and the new ones are bamboo.

3) What should I consider when buying an AIO
Ummmmm, when you are starting out just look for something you like the look of. The other issues will become apparent once you start using cloth. Bubblebubs are a great nappy and easy to get hold of.

4) With summer coming along, will AIO be too warm (i live in WA) and uncomfortable.
Bubblebubs are a bit sweaty but absolutely no more sweaty than a sposie. If you want to try a nice summer nappy get a fitted (Bits for Bots have great fitteds). But you will have to change it once it feels wet.

5) Are they worth the cost, will they last long enough as in size and durability.
I would suggest getting a medium. You bub will fit on the smaller end of the medium size range so it might eb a touch too big at first but they grow quickly so dont get smalls.

6) How many should I get.
I'd get 1 or 2 to start with.

I've only just started on the mcn's and I needed to go the easy option as DH is so dead set against them (but hey he'll get used to it. )

To be honest for cost factor I went with the OSFM so that I didn't have to buy more as DS grew (cause DH would have a hissy fit if I keep buying nappies!) .... so I went down the track of fitteds with covers and pockets and I'm really happy with both.

For the fitteds I got the Baby Beehinds Bamboo (not hemp) and they are fantastic .... I first only got PUL covers and they have been fine, even over night, but I have just bought a couple of wool now as well. In summer I'm intending to let DS run around in just the fitted and don't worry about a cover.

For the pockets I've got some BumGenius and Haute Pockets .... both are great and come with the inserts. DH mainly uses the pockets as I have them all pre-stuffed under the change table, so he just grabs one and doesn't need to worry about a cover.

I've got in total 16 nappies and we're doing well ... he's in cloth full-time now (unless we're going out where I can't dispose of poo easily then he's in a sposie). I wash every night and hang the nappies on the line and the pockets are dry in the morning and the fitteds are dry by mid afternoon on a sunny day.

Good luck ... as another poster said ... just buy a couple to start to see if you like those particular nappies and then go from there.

A lot of people go down the OSFA route thinking they are a more economical option however mediums fit for a very very long time. If your bub is already born then getting mediums will generally see you right through to toddlerhood. My son is wearing mediums on the same snaps that he was wearing at 4 months (he is now 14 months) old. As babies grow they slim down.

Anyway thats just my advice. If there are OSFA nappies that you want to try great but dont get caught up on only getting OSFA.

I have a few favorites. Mostly the Bubblebubs and Green Kids.

I am not a HUGE fan of fitteds but only because my little one is too squirmy. But I do have 3 fitteds a Baby Behinds Bamboo, a Cute Tooshies Bamboo and a Bum Genius Bamboo. I LOVE the BG bamboo because it is really really trim. However it is not as absorbant as the other 2.

I hated my Mummy's Touch with a passion.

I find that pockets are best for us as they dry fastest.

A few more questions:-

I like Velcro as it is easily adjustable BUT some babies soon learn to rip them off

2) if I was to buy pockets or AI2 (is there a difference) how will I know if they need a cover

An Ai2 has an outter shell and a snap in booster/inner ie like ittibitti AI2's. Only a fitted (like Babybeehinds Bamboo) will need a cover. Pocket nappies made from fleece or PUL don't need a cover
3) What absorbs the best bamboo/hemp/microfibre
Bamboo is the most absorbant but takes longer to dry.
4) Why is it that most of the web pages have very limited stock especially of the bum genius??
Bumgenius are quite popular and are from overseas. The supplier is filling its US stockists first from what I believe. I LOVE Bumgenius pockets

Whats with the lack of Bumgenious!!!!! gggrrr I am in desperate need of a stock up!!!

I did a silly thing, I decided to go fulltime cloth with the birth of my 4th baby, so having two innappies is expensive!!!

so stocking up on larges, smalls then the medium anticipation is massive!!!

Love my bumgeniuos AIOs for DS, and not being able to get more at the moment have bought tonnes of monkey doodles

for our newborn, nothings working because shes a HUGE wetter, any ideas?

I chose Bubblebubs from your list but they are all different types of nappies so its hard to compare them.

Very hard to compare. I only have GK's and BB's from off your list. Oh I did have a MD but it didn't work for Eb's. I love my blueberrys though.

1) As stated in an easlier post, what is the best fastening methond??
I prefer velcro, it gets a better fit, and it's easier to put on a wriggly baby/toddler

2) if I was to buy pockets or AI2 (is there a difference) how will I know if they need a cover
Pockets and AI2 don't usually need covers. I a nappy has poleyester fleece or PUL on the outside or a hidden layer it is waterproof

3) What absorbs the best bamboo/hemp/microfibre
bamboo, then hemp, then microfibre, and thats the order of drying from longest to shortest

4) Why is it that most of the web pages have very limited stock especially of the bum genius??
Because MCN is getting more and more popular, and with a lot of the bigger brands coming from overseas it takes time for the stores to restock

there is not one nappy that is better than the others
everything works different for different babies
its a matter of trail and error
