Evening Chickies, I need some help. Ok I thought you counted 14days from the first day of your period and thats when you get all jiggy with your hubby, but my friend just said its 14days from the last day of your period. Hmmm I'm all confused and need help help help:confused: .
Hey Springbride,
I am not an expert but to my knowledge it is about 14 days from the first day of your period, depending on your cycle length. The first day of your period is CD1 so you wait until about CD14 to get al "jiggy".
Good Luck
Bree
Your friend is wrong! It is in fact counted from the first day of your AF. Good luck!!

Yup, your friend is wrong. Doing a jiggy 14 days from the last day of your period is unlikely to make a baby jig! :p Unless you have a really long cycle.
Basically day 1 is the first day of bleeding. The 'average' woman ovulates on day 14 but this can vary between day 7 (yes, while still bleeding!) and day 21.
Do you know how to check your body physically for ovulation? That is probably the most accurate method of knowing when you are ovulating and in turn most likely to conceive.

Hi Springbride!
Basically regardless of how long your cycle is you will *usually* ovulate about 14 days BEFORE your AF arrives.
For example-
If you have a 28 day cycle you will probably O around day 14
If you have a 40 day cycle you will probably O around day 26.
14 days from the start of your period is one big myth and if you have irregular or long cycles you will almost certainly miss the egg if you BD at day 14 and then stop.
I hope this helps! Are you keeping track of your fertile signs like CM, temp and doing OPK's?? If you BD every 2nd day from the time your period finishes you should be fairly well covered. Good luck!

Same as the others are saying, but basically you will get your next AF 14 days after you ovulate and this depends on your cycle length as to when you ovulate.

OK, be prepared for some confronting information here. :D
The clearest way to tell if you are ovulating is to physically check your cervix-or more to the point, your cervical mucous. When you ovulate you produce quite a bit of mucous that resembles raw egg white. Occasionally you may notice this in your undies but the best way to check it is to get your fingers in "there" and feel for it. When you withdraw your fingers, slowly part them and if you are ovulating you will notice stretchy raw egg white type mucous forming a window between your fingers. If you are not ovulating, this mucous will be more "solid and tacky" if there is any at all.
I know this sounds gross, but it is a very efficient way to tell. It is how we check our mares, only on a much bigger scale!
As far as temperature checking goes, I will hand that to someone else as I could never remember to do this at the right time each day.
Occasionally, if you are really tuned into your body, you will actually feel the egg being released. It can be a stabbing pain, low on one side of your abdomen, and this will also let you know which ovary has released the egg.
All the best. You'll get it right. We women have been having babies for many years now and sooner or later we all work it out.

My Gyno told me about a month ago to be Jiggy with your husband/Partner between day 11-17 depending on the length of your cycle and it is to be calculated from the first day of your period.

Its sad that there is so much conflicting info out there...especially from doctors! I had so much trouble when I got pg explaining to the dr that I had long cycles and they couldnt calculate the due date from my last period. Its like they cant fathom women not having a 28-day cycle!!
ANYWAY, it is exactly what Mummy to Mason said...you calculate about 14 days BEFORE your period starts. For example, if you had a 60-day cycle (Ive had those before!), if you got "jiggy" on day 14, you would NOT get pregnant! You would need to be getting busy about day 46, give or take a few days.
One thing you can use to help you determine when you ovulate are opks - ovulation predictor kits. You can get them in the grocery store, or for cheaper, can get them online from lullabyconceptions.com or ebay. You pee on them everyday and they will turn positive about a day or so before you ovulate.
Hope that helps some? Good luck!
Hi
I thought ovulation was around day 14 for my 28-30 day cycle but its actually around day 10/11 for me. Sometimes it was a day early other times a day late.
Thus BDing every second night from day 8 (nine days into a cycle)to about day 17 seems to do the trick. The theory has been proven twice :D .
