View Full Version : My brilliant (albeit rather impractical) idea.
You know what I was thinking the other night.....
Wouldn't it be excellent if in the New Mother Bounty Bags they included some MCN's along with the sposie samples.
How incredibly brilliant would that be.
Imagine if every new mum got a small Magic-All and a GK pocket (with insert)
Or imagine if all the cloth mums who sew, made a few nappies a month to and they were included in Bounty Bags..
I wonder how many we'd need???? How many babies are born each year?
But wouldn't that be excellent! Imagine how many people would use cloth if they had the opportunity to try them out as a new Mum, and were given the information about them in their Bounty Bags.
Do you think it's a good idea?

Great idea but i couldnt see someone donating that amount to bounty bags i guess, when there is such a large majority who just wont use cloth at all!
I do like the idea though,,,,,i want a bounty bag like that :D

Good idea.. yeh
But its never gonna happen.. To have people willing to give away that many is impractical and unrealistic..
Push for more info on them in the bounty bags maybe..
Yep I was going to say what goose said. Just some info on them in there and some advertising from the websites I think would point alot of mums in the right direction

It's a brilliant idea although I'd never heard of bounty bags til I joined Bubhub, so I don't know if anyone in my area would benefit from it.

Statistics from 2004..
257,205 babies born to 252,871 mothers in 2004
That gives you a rough idea of the number of bounty bags needed.. ;)
Yeah I know it'll never happen.. :D
But a girl can dream..
However, like you said Goose... INFORMATION about cloth is a possibility... I wonder where I'd make that suggestion to?? I might look it up.
Doesn't negate the fact that it would be brilliant though hey.... ;)

Gee that's a lot of Mums!

Hey Goose - gotta say i love your bump! wow!!
as for the poll - absolutely agree - though i can see the cost as impractical, and for those who will not use them it's a waste.
But for those who recieved the bag and don't like plastic poo catchers it's not a great idea either - so, perhaps just info and a 75%off voucher for one nappy from one of many WAHM participants may be very useful. but while we're talking cloth, there should also be info about other ""Non-Mainstream"" parenting / lifestyle choices. Like nappy free babies, and co-sleeping, more info in vacc or not, aternatives to harsh cleaners around bub.
oohh - ok, i think i made my answer! ! it's been a while since i've been on, so i'm all 'happy fingered' !!
Ciao!

Ciao!
now THAT is a brilliant idea!!!!
And even do-able if we campaign it correctly. :D

I love it, love it, love it!! Great idea! People need to know that there are other options out there instead of flittering money away to Huggies, contributing to landfill etc, etc...
I think a great way to get the message across. from me!
Hey Hun
I used to work for the company that distributes the bounty bags, it's actually a company called EMAP Australia, and they publish Mother and Baby magazine and Pregnancy and birth. The bounty bags are great and they have a special sales team at EMAP who deal with just Bounty bags, from my understanding of when i worked there, people actually pay for advertising in these bounty bags, it's not just a 'free' service. I am pretty sure the advertising of the products would contribute to the large amount of money it costs to distribute and to make the bounty bags. Anyways there website is www.emap.com.au
But while i love your idea, i can see it not happening as it does cost money even just to put a brochure in there.

Yes it does cost money even for a brochure and it's a whole lot of money too :gloomy: Way out of reach for even the bigger WAHMs :(

That's so wrong... it should be much more affordable. You'd know all about this, I guess, Janie... It's not fair  Of course Kimberly Clarke etc have not probs paying that sort of money.

Yep, thats true, that's cause it does reach 96% of pregnant women and to get your product across to that many people costs thousands unfortunately.
Wouldn't it be great if MCNs were promoted by local councils?
I had my last baby in the UK and MCN info was definately provided although I can't remember if it came from the Bounty bags or the local child health nurses. Also, some local councils provided rebates for buying MCNs in the form of a voucher. I got £45 towards mine which is pretty decent when you convert it to Aus dollars. Def good enough to enable people to buy some to try.
Do we need to start lobbying?!

It's a good thought but just think of all those MCN that would go to waste from people who didn't want them. That would mean less for all your stashes!
But a detailed brochure would certainly be good. Although I don't even remember getting any kind of bag.
Just to give you an idea of what a sort of big $$$ you are looking at these are the prices from earlier this year
3 months National metro 40,000 leaflets $465 per 000 $18,600 +GST
3 months NSW metro 15,000 leaflets $490 per 000 $7,350 +GST
3 months VIC metro 10,000 leaflets $490 per 000 $4,900 +GST
3 months QLD metro 7,000 leaflets $490 per 000 $3,430 +GST

Maybe the government could cover the cost of the insert. As it is an environmental issue.........

Holy Moly!!
Yeah... I think the gov should cover it.. environmental impact and all...
Actually getting the MCN brochure in the bounty bags is something that the Australian Nappy Network hopes to look into sometime in the future (that and getting into the expos) but as we all know both of these things cost lots of $$$. We will be applying for grants which may assist these bringing these visions to fruition but even more important is having that base level support through memberships and having people who are willing to assist with advocacy activities. So if you would like to see these sorts of things become a reality make sure that you show your support when the ANN opens for memberships

At least some information about MCN's would be great! Cause like so many other - I had no idea that they even existed till I joined here. And the same has to go for Parenting and pregnancy mags.
