View Full Version : Need your opinion ASAP
My DD (nearly 8 months) has been a little off the last few days, today she has only drunk 160 mls of milk and would only eat breakfast (1weetbix) i am contemplating going to the hospital.
I rang them and all they could tell me is if i'm worried to come up , I asked if there is many PPL up there and they said ATM its a 4 hour wait.
my dilemma is going tonight or waiting till the morning.
reasons for going are:
*worried about dehydration
*only had 2 wet nappies today and had the runs
*not eating or drinking
Reason for waiting are:
*she is still happy and on the move
*No temp
*having up to 10mls of syringed water 4-5 times today
* My DS is asleep in bed and we would have to wake him.
DP has just put her to sleep and i don't know whether to leave it till tomorrow or go tonight.
Your opinion would be appreciated.

I think it's better to be safe than sorry. If you wait till tomorrow you'll be up all night checking on her and worrying anyway.
Good luck I hope she's fine :fingerscrossed:

if that was me i would probably just keep a close eye on her and let her be for now. The fact that she has no temp and she is getting some fluids into her via syringe etc - if she is happy and on the move thats also a good sign because she isnt lethargic.
JMO though. Just keep a close eye on her and if she gets a temp or is looking lethargic (more then usual) or if any symptoms get worse take her to the hospital. In saying that though if you really think you should take her then take her or you will worry all night..
Hope she is ok :hugs:
I think the reasons for waiting to see how she is in the morning are very valid...
I agree with what Hayleylea said....very wise advice!

In Victoria, there is a nurse-on-call 24hr hotline to give medical expert opinion. Is there something similar in Brisbane? It may sway you either way. I sympathise with your reasons for not going, I think they are very valid, especially if you have to wake another child just to sit in emergency for 4 hours. Goodluck and hope it all works out.
The 4 hours is only a guess, if they are worried about her when you get there she could be seen much quicker. You can always go in the middle of the night if you decide to stay home now and yet don't want to wait til morning. If you're worried - go to hospital.
Thanks heaps guys I think for now we will wait cause she is asleep. I can always go up later if she gets any worse.
I will see how she goes RE milk and food in the morning and if she still doesn't want anything then i will take her up there.

I would keep a close eye on her. Its amazing how quickly kids can bouce back and she will hopefully be better in the morning and you won't be able to fill her!
If she has had a little water and is happily sleeping I'd wait til morning unless that changes.

Hey leashie,
Hope Marissa is ok. I think you should go if you're worried or if she deteriorates. She's been sick for a few days now hasn't she. Good luck - i'm sure she'll bounce back soon, let us know :hugs:

Hi there,
Mikaylas went through this stage and it ended up being teething could that be it?
If you concerned take bub in anyway.

I wouldn't go because she's still having wet nappies, has no temp, isn't lethargic and is asleep. My pair go off their food in a big way when they're sick, so I don't worry about this much (I don't exactly have a pair of skinny minnies, though!). The only time I go to the hospital is if they're really lethargic, or temp is above 40. All over rashes would see me racing to the hospital too, in case of meningitis.
Good luck!
DD is just 9 months and have been through just this, severe runs and really off food and her bottles were down.
She was still the usual happy girl though so just made sure I kept up the fluids and keep offering bottles and when she wouldnt sleep a dose of nurofen and she would sleep well. tummy pain or teeth, I have no idea!
I originally thought it was teething as we are cutting the top two now but the runs were quite bad, every nappy was poo and some like water. :(
I think it may have been a tummy bug now though as the teeth are still trying to come through but shes back to normal today, her 3 meals (but smaller amounts ) and her bottles are still lower than normal but better than the last few days.
It lasted about 5-6 days
I agree with the above, if she gets a high temp or rash / lethargic etc then take her up there, other wise I would let her sleep
and maybe off to the gp tomorrow morning to ease your mind.
I hope shes feeling better soon.
