View Full Version : $600 per child??
I have heard that once you have lodged your tax return, each family will receive $600 per child. Does anyone know if this is correct, and if it is do they send you a cheque???????

If you receive FTB A (and/or B), then once your tax and your partners tax has been reconciled with their records, they will give you $600 (it's actually a bit more) per child, depending on whether you owe them money, pro rata for children in your care for part of the year. FTB B attracts around $300 per family. It will be deposited into the account your FTB payments go in to.

I think you will find you you only get that payment for children born prior to 1 July 2004 - before the baby bonus came in. The baby bonus replaced this payment (so its not so much of a bonus, it works out at less money in total than the old maternity payment).

This is correct. The current FTB supplement payment has nothing to do with birthing prior to 2004.

No, Shady Character is wrong (sorry...lol).
I had DD on July 2005, and got a $3000 baby bonus... and on Wednesday, I got that FTB payment.
In my case, I didn't have to do a tax return (as I hadn't worked at all in the financial year), but DP did. I called up, said, "I was told by a friend that I should call up and say my partner has lodged his tax return, and that I don't have to. Something to do with a Family Tax Supplement?"
The guy understood what I was going on about (somehow...lol), and said, "Yep, we've got his Tax Return details here..." and then babbled on about in the end, I got $600 and then another $300... because I recieve part A and B. It went into my bank 2 days later.
Just call them on 13 6150 and ask... it's called a Family Tax Supplement...

€If you were overpaid in ftb they will use the 600 per child to pay it back, whatever is left over, you will get.

No idea why you haven't gotten it Shady?
Have you called up and asked? Everyone here had been talking about it since July and I only called on Monday to ask about it...
It might be worth an ask... it got me a bit over $900, so it's definately worth asking!
And yeah, if you were overpaid, they'll take some of the money out (or all of it if you were overpaid a lot!)... but if not, then you get it all.

I get a tiny bit of Part B (or is it A), only about $10 a fortnight or something.
Not really inclined to ring them, as I suspect I was slightly overpaid last year (accidentally!), so would prefer call it even stevens :o.
I got it the first year after my son was born, but I didn't work for most of that financial year, so I figured it was because I didn't have much of an income.
Surely if I was overpaid and they deducted it from the $600 or whatever, I would have got some sort of assessment notice?

Do you work?

* $17 356 in 2007-08 if your youngest child is between five and 18.
Family Tax Benefit Part A stops being paid when your family income is equal to or over these income limits.
Income limit at which Family Tax Benefit Part A is no longer paid
One child : $97 845
Two children: $107 797
Three children: $118 625
Note: Income limits include the $667.95 per child Family Tax Benefit Part A supplement that is paid for 2006/07 after the end of the financial year. The Income limit is higher if you are eligible for Multiple Birth Allowance.
Off the website - so somewhere you fit in to get paid - but we didn't
