Hi gals,

Just wanted to ask if anyone else knew this?

My friend had her 4th bub by c-section today, and she just told me this arvo, that she had her tubes tied at the same time! I didn't know they could do that...though thinking about it, i guess it makes sense. ....

If anyone does know, is the recovery time different...or just the same as a c/s?

Hi,
Yes you can have it done, although it is statisticly better to wait to the effects of the pregnancy have gone(ie increased blood vessels ect) as the clips they put on need to close off the tube. If there is extra tissue and blood vessels hanging around they sometimes don't close the clip down enough to cut access and the egg/sperm can still get through. Another way of doing it is to totally cut off your fallopian tubes and remove them then burn the end at the uterus closing it off to the ovary(this is know as the cut and burn as there is no turning back ever) It takes no longer to recover than just having the C/S:)

A girlfriend of mine had this done after her third child. She had suffered from severe irritable uterine syndrome with the 2nd and 3rd pregnancies and was actually lucky her uterus hadn't ruptured due to all the severe contracting. The surgeon said she was lucky to have her own life as well as that of her babes. She had no choice but to have them tied. She was aware that this would happen during her 3rd pregnancy so she did have time to get used to the idea.

yes it is easily done at time of cesear i am actually getting a full tubal litigation after our 4th bub is born, I have had all cesears. It is actually alot easier to do when they haveyou open as they can see everything well otherwise you have to wait 6 weeks after birth and have either tubes tied or litigation through keyhole where they do 3 little holes for the procedure (to me that is more risky especially with scar tissue from the previous cesears) recovery time is the same for the cesear and it only takes them an extra 10mins to do it while you are laready open. saves going to day surgery to have it done. Way less hassle that way. My ob said that when you have the cesear it is the best time to do it .

Thanks gals, i was just curious...it seems the easiest way to go, getting it done at the same time....

Michelle, she had a little girl, Breanna Mae, 8lbs, 8oz, don't know the length, etc yet. I'm gonna go see her later today, can't wait!

I had set my mind to getting them done at the same time, but my obs said that the hospital won't allow it (and he wouldn't do it anyway) as due to inflamation and all at the time of the c-sect there is an decrease in the effectiveness and ultimately in the "finality" of the op.

In other words the "100% effective" that is SAID to accompany the procedure reduces to a "87% effective" rating.

If they do them at the same time as a c-section, they don't generally use clips, which would be dodgy for reasons of swelling etc as perprevious poster's comments.

They usually do a cut & tie cos they have you cut open and can do so easily - ie 100% effective. Or as best they can guarantee anyway. I had this done. No probs. Recovery time the same as for c-sect by itself.
