Ok am in need of some advice...My best freind is Pregnant with Baby number 8....their ages are 25. 23, 21, 16, 8, 7 and 3 they are all boys except for her 16yrd old, she has found out that this one is a girl and as she has never had a baby shower and has absolutly nothing for a little girl I thought I would throw a surprise baby shower for her, but I dont know what to do as I never had one. Questions I have...do you only invite females or can you have family thing, what do you do???? I have no idea any help greatly appreciated thanx.

Basically you can do what ever you want

if you think she would like a family bbq thing then do that, or if she would like a female only thing then do that

there are no rules to baby showers these days, you don't have to do games if ya's don't want to, and it can be as relaxed or as formal as you choose

have fun planning the baby shower

Get everyone to bring a baby picture if themselves and have a game to guess who it is.

Pass round a couple of rolls of toilet paper and ask people to tear off a length that they think would fit around her tummy - then check.

Say a line from a nursery rhyme and everyone guesses what it is - try and make it a little obscure though.

Make predictions for date / time baby will be born and it's weight and length.

My favourite - get a whole stash of disposable nappies and then melt different chocolate bars (separately) in the microwave and mush them up, then smear one each onto a nappy. Put a number on each nappy and then pass them round. Give each person a piece of paper and ask them to try and figure out - by smelling, looking, tasting what each chocolate bar is. It's revolting, hysterical, and lots of fun.

Traditionally, when someone wins a game, you give them a little baby item which they then give to the mum-to-be. You could give them a little prize - maybe a choccy bar too, if you want.

We had a great baby shower for my sister at the beginning of the year - a brunch. Non alcoholic drinks - juice, tea, coffee, etc, and some little quiches, muffins, different breads, croissants. We put out a toaster and some spreads and everyone helped themselves.

Low key - had a few games first, so people could then stay as long as they wanted.

Good luck with the planning and have a great party!

I went to a baby shower on the weekend and there was a really simple game that everyone enjoyed. The host had frozen a jelly baby into an ice cube for each person, which was then put in a glass. While we were talking you kept an eye on your ice cube to see who would birth their baby first!

Good game if people don't know each other as it doesn't require a lot of interaction but can be a discussion opener as well.

Hope it all goes well!

This is my favourite too - it gets everyone laughing and talking, so it's a great way to get to know other guests.

Might be worth asking hubby if there's still things that they need and get a gift register (Target has a baby one) so that there won't be any double ups with gifts.

You can have a mixed shower for her where everyone joins in, not just the girls...

There are heaps of different games you can play...

Nappy throwing competition

Guess the size of the belly -with a string, everybody guesses how long it should be - winner gets a prize

Alphabet Quiz - write down every letter of the alphabet and everyone has 2 minutes to write down something baby related for each letter - fastest player wins a prize

Or what i did at mine was buy a whole heap of cheap white baby singlets and some fabric paint, glitter, buttons etc and everyone design a singlet for the baby.
