DD's first birthday is coming up and we really dont want to have anything at home...
We have been thinking about having it at a local park where there is a playground for any kids that will be there and to just state on the invite BYO rug or chair.
What food should we serve?
Has anyone done this before? If so how did it go?

Yep we did! We had Summer's first birthday at a big park . We had LOTS of food. We had a BBQ and I cooked a few meals as well and MIL made some filo food. It turned out great! We decorated the tables and the area and the kids played in the playground and the grass areas and we also set up some games for them.
Turned out wonderfully!

Were having our sons 1st birthday in just over 3 weeks time. We are preparing most of the food and making alot of nibbles ourself to cut cost. but obviosly have to buy snags haha for the meet eaters. We are planning pass the parcell but mostly its family and a few friends to mark the day. Hope u enjoy it
I had DDs 1st Birthday at a park too. It was great!
We had a sauasage sizzle, fruit platters, biscuits, dip, cheeses & cake of course:D
I didn't put lollies in the loot bags but instead gave them out before the pinata so the kids could fill add a few lolloies to them.

This brings back memories.
We had Ds's first birthday at the park and it was.....'eventful'!!!
His birthday is in September so spring. It was a beautiful day but it was a little....well.....windy. they're was gale force winds- a tree fell down, almost hitting someone! It was definately one to remember.
Actually I don't have the best track reconrds with weather and throwing parties. For DS's christening I had a garden christening planned in my parents backyard- it rained!!!!
Definatley a good idea though, especially for older kids- just take a soccer ball and they'll all have a ball.
Re:food. We had some snags, chicken kababas, a few salads, some breadrolls and a lolly bags.
oh i wish i could have made ds's 1st bday in a park it would have been great! he was born in the middle of winter, so its either rainy cold or windy, booo! :( go for it i think its a great idea! x
Yep we did. The park we chose is notoriuos for lon gline up's at the BBQ's so we made it a morning tea party and let people know that we'd be there all day so if they wanted to pack lunch they were welcome to make a day of it too. So we just had cold party food...lollies, chips and dip etc. and a big fruit platter and DD's birthday cake.
We had a great day....some people left to go home for lunch but most people stayed and the party went until about 4pm.
The weather wasn't the best in the morning but there is a rotunda at the park so we got some tables from DH's work and set up in the rotunda...the day fine dup and we had the best spot in the park!
