When DS has a fever I usually just strip him down to a singlet and nappy to help cool him down. I also give him a lot of water and I find that this helps a lot. I then just have a really light blanket over him when he sleeps at night.

If his fever stays high for a couple of hours I then give him baby panadol.

The first thing you can do is give him panadol and maybe even nurofen at the same time. It will make the temp drop down quickly. Also maybe giving him a luke warm bath. Poor little Noah, i hope he gets better soon! :hugs:

I'd give him some panadol now. And I agree - lots of fluids. Hope he feels better soon!!

If the panadol doesn't bring the temp down I would take him to the docs. (I am a total worry wart when it comes to sick kids)

By the way it is a bit high but not too high. Try not to stress!:hugs: The worst my DS got was 39.7 and believe me that wasnt pretty!

When Brion had to go to ER from fever and vomitting they said they worry more about the symptoms that come witht he temp rather then JUST the temp.

So basically if he is very listless, lethargic, vomitting, has a rash, or is completely out of their behaviour norm (ie miserable) then to take them to the docs, or call the ER.

If not - just give them panadol or nurofen - but not Nurofen if they are vomitting - cos that can sometimes make their tummy feel worse. Strip them down and plenty of water - or if they will take it pedialite or gastrolyte.

Hope your little man feels better soon.:hugs:

I agree. It's reason to keep a close eye on Noah, but don't get too alarmed. The combination of panadol, fluids, a bath and light clothing should go a long way in dropping his temperature.

PS. Hope he feels better soon!!

Dd and ds always get bad high temps over 39  i usually give them neurofen (ds can't have it now due to asthma).I strip them down to nappy and singlet and give them a wipe down with a cool flannel.DONOT stick them into a bath it can make them worse(or cause a febrile convulsion).

Give him plenty of water or if he is dehydrated give him pedialite or something.

BIG :hugs: hope he is better soon.

Keep up the panadol, If he stays over 38.5 with the panadol then u should worry. Hot babies don't like to be bothered
Good luck

Glad his temp broke.. as a general guide this is what I go by (im sure my health nurse or someone told me this and its worked perfectly for me)

This is if there arent other symptoms like drowsiness etc.... just a general idea...

36.6 is normal.

37.5+ is a slight temp... dont really need to treat but can give panadol if u wish

38.5+ moderate temp.. give panadol and keep an eye on them... if the temp doesnt break for 24 hours for a bub or a bit longer for older child then take them to the docs

39.5+ give panadol and take to doctors

40.5+ panadol and hospital

Also from 6 months they can have panadol AND nurofen... give one, then 2 hours later if temp not broken they can have the other one.

the highest temp I've had is bella had 40.4 and I called the nurse on call or whatever its called and she confirmed 'if it gets to 40.5 go to hosp' but then her temp broke! I was SO relieved!

Antoher thing I learnt when I did an infants first aid course was... the paramedic told us 'if in doubt give panadol' his reason was really high temps can lead to bub having convulsions so better to give the panadol and try to break it early than wait it out and it could just get worse... some people are sure to disagree with that but just what I was told and I thought it was good advice

thought it might be helpful to know that stuff.... sorry for the essay of a post!!!

my doctor and the hospital have told me when they have a high temp to give them a luke warm bath to help bring it down then try panadol. Just curios on who told you not to do it.

My DS has had 3 febrile convulsions in the past 12 mths and believe me they are not nice. I much rather give him panadol to stop that from happening.

I was told that by my doctor and by a few nurses because it can bring their temp down too quick sending the body into shock, its reccommened now to just wipe down with a damp flannel.

Im not saying that in every case it happens just what ive been told not to do.

Ds has febrile convulsions so i choose to be very careful.
