Hi ladies :D Just wondering if someone can please head me in the right direction of what Labour and Liberal are promising to bring this great country.
I have heard Labour is going to scrap centrelink (this one I didnt believe) and John Howard is going to make all school leavers do 1 year in the army (Another I chose not to believe).

I am now undecided as to who to vote for because der, I dont know which government is best for me.

I would also be interested to read the - and I use the term loosely - "election promises"

I'd advise you to have a read through the info on both party's websites - Labor (http://www.alp.org.au/) and Gnomes-r-us (http://www.liberal.org.au/)

Rudd is promising

* An education revolution
* Decisive action on climate change
* Balance and fairness in the workplace
* Maintaining our national security
* A strong economy that delivers for working families
* A national plan to fix our hospitals

JHo is "promising" (with :fingerscrossed: behind back most likely!) some other stuff such as further war-mongering, keeping the unethical workchoices policy, screwing over single mums, creating a radio active Australia via nuclear energy etc.
(and no, I didn't get JHo's policies off the website. :p )

So no news on scrapping ftb for working families? I mean I am now working and still receiving part ftb. If it was to be scrapped because I was working I would have to leave work :(

That was labour's plan last time, which is why I voted Liberal. I have no doubts that if they haven't told us about it this time, they will spring it on us after the election if they win.

Just remember that promises are really just a load of tosh to get them into parliament!
We need to keep them accountable!

BTW I think the thing to check is the manifesto of each party once the election is called. Then we should really do our homework and check what each candidate stands for.

Howard has proposed a 'Gap Year' for school leavers to join the Defence Force for a year instead of travelling abroad or working in the private sector during their gap year. (Gap year refers to the year off that school leavers sometimes take between finishing Yr 12 and starting uni)

I don't think he's planning conscription - yet ;)

And as far as ALP scrapping Centrelink - I'll believe it when I see it. There's been nothing reported, and I am reluctant to believe Labor would roll back any social security or welfare benefits - that's what Howard and co have done to lots of people on sickness/disability benefits though.

I agree with every single word, especially the 'gnomes-r-us' That would have to be one of the funniest things I have ever read on BH.
