When it says that you can't use barrier creams with MCN's - does that mean that you can not put ANY nappy creams on bub's bum at all?

And do you wash your nappies with other washing - or just on their own? It's just that I am just getting started (have 5 nappies!) so it seems like a big wash for a very little load?

we rarely get nappy rash but if i need to use a cream, i put a disposable or flushable liner in to protect the nappy from the cream.

i have about 30 so i only wash every 2-3 days so mine is just a nappy load. if i only had 5 then i would rinse them then chuck in with normal washing (just make sure you still use reduced detergent)

Yes that's right, no barrier creams on MCN. If you are wanting to use something without a liner then you can use Curash power which is zinc based but wont leave a residue on your nappy and make it repel water like the creams. I have never had a nappy rash problem whilst using MCN.

When i was first starting out i only had a few nappies too. I would give them a warm rinse in a bucket of water to get the wee out then chuck them in with whatever washing i was doing, just remember the reduced detergent.

I now have enough to do a medium load every second day.

We went from HAVING TO use 2 layers of cream at every nappy change in sposies, to using no cream with cloth. Occasionally I have to use some curash powder when Lachlan is teething, or when Noah has eaten something he is allergic to.

I have 2 in cloth full time so I do a full load of just nappies every second day, but if I only had 5 - I would rinse them and put them in with all the other clothes

Yep, what a great idea- rinse in a bucket of warm water, chuck in with other washing

Just one important thing to add- your MCN's should only be washed with a very small amount of detergent. So, even though you're washing with other stuff, all you should add is 1/4-1/2 the recommended amount of powder or liquid. Too much doesn't rinse out properly and builds up, causing rash/making them repel etc. Dry on the line and everything will be fresh and clean... Oh and no fabric softener or detergent with softener built-in. Sorry if you knew all that already!!

Ta for the great ideas! DS doesn't really get nappy rash - just the redness around his bottom from bad poo's etc. Does that make sense?

Ok there is a cream you can use & have no dramas with !

Its the Brauers Nappy Rash Cream not only is it MCN's friendly but also being natural is really good for bubs bum ! We either use this or cornflour/Curash for any rash that develops ( rarely & only when teething ) which clears up in next to no time !

I get what you mean, Julius is getting red on his bum, but not a rash.I put curash on every change because he is so little at the moment, & I dont want it to get worse.I use washable microfleece liners, I wash the liners seperately from the nappies so any cream left in the liner dosent reck the nappies.

Yeah it is OSFA but you fasten it with velcro... it is weird.

I haven't seen one but it sounds like it fastens with velcro but 'snaps down' to lower the rise, concertina-style. Kwim? The upper row of snaps should fasten to one of the lower rows.. Hope that helps, I might have that wrong! I just imagine it to be like the BumGenius pockets :)

That is exactly right  They are just like the bg or Haute Pockets (actually I think they're made by the same company as Hautes)
