I just saw this being talked about on another post and just got me wondering. How effective is the morning after pill? does it actually work? Has anyone taken the morning after pill and then still been pregnant?

I'm not needing to use it or anything just wondering is all.

I have used it 3 times and never been pregnant.

It is supposed to be effective into the 90% area if used within 24 hours of unprotected sex and the effectiveness drops as it gets longer.. at 72 hours I think its about 50% effective.

It costs about $40 and its two small pills, you take one as soon as you get it and the other 12 hours after it. When you get it they write your name and details in a book - its a legal thing the government is doing.

It used to be a prescription only medication but now it is over the counter.

I have never had side-effects - except the guilt from needing to take it.

Well I just took it the other day, and I'm absolutely certain that it was my very fertile time of the month. Any other time and I wouldn't have bothered taking it. If it hasn't worked I'll let you know.

I was also wondering that if it didn't work, what affect might it have on the baby?

I have had it twice and it worked I guess since I didnt fall preggers.
The first time I took it was in highschool years ago and it made me violently ill, I think the drug was changed/improved later as I took it again a few years later and it didn't make me ill at all!

I have used it twice too. Once just after high school and it made me sooo ill. They gave me the morning aftr pill and anti nausia medication because they knew it made people sick. It was just like taking too many of your own pill.
After Elora was born I took it because i was so worried i would get pregnant. So i stopped breast feeding and expressed and poured it down the sick :crying: . Way to make you sad all that milk going to waste.
I never got pregnant, but i very much doubt i would have been when i look back, just wrong timeing.
Is there something your not telling me carly?

I took the morning after pill and it didnt work. I took it the next morning too. It made me feel nauseous. Few weeks later I had bleeding which I thought was a period. Later found out I was pregnant. At my 13 week ultrasound (which I thought I was only 9 weeks pregnant) found out my baby was missing a chromosome and had no chance of life so terminated a few days later.

I dont know if taking the morning after pill had any thing to do with my baby missing a chromosome or if it was just a coincidence.

Pinkandblue - So sorry for your loss :hugs: . You must have gone through a range of different emotions during that time.

Well I took it the two tablets prior to DS1 and ended up being pregnant with DS1 already - he survived it - absolutely nothing wrong with him.....because it is the same hormones as the pill just in a higher dose I suppose it would be like taking the pill and not knowing you were pregnant.
