im sorry to hear you didnt get the result you wanted....:hugs:

i would think just do your best to keep all sugar intake to a minimum...eat fruit if you can for snacks...id say vegies are fine....and im pretty sure youd be safe with weetbix...just do the best you can and then when you see your dietician they will be able to give you some great advice

i have to be tested early for this aswell im going on friday as there was glucose found in my urine sample...im a little scared but it is controlable with diet or maybe even tablets:yes:

good luck i hope you get some good advice on wat to do:hugs:

I had GD and it wasn't so bad. Just keep away from sugary foods and eat lots fruit and veg. Try and stay clear of white bread as that makes your sugars really high.

I was doing 3 insulin injections a day and 4 blood tests a day for the last 2/3 months. Don't worry, the injections don't even hurt!!

They like you to stay between 3 and 7 with your sugars. When you drop below 3 you'll start to feel shaky and kind of weak so you'll need to eat something with sugar. I couldn't really tell when I was higher than 7 but thats why you test your blood. You might not even have to have the injections.

No matter what I did mine just kept creeping higher, thats why I was on the insulin.

The Dietician will give you a list of what foods you can and can't eat. It'll have Good Better Best catergories on it. The Educator will explain everything to you and teach you how to inject yourself if you need to - I was lucky because my DH has Type 1/Juvenile Onset Diabetes so I had a know it all to keep me on track

If you want you can PM me but keep your chin up, you'll be fine!!

That's reasonably high, I think 7.9 or over is diagnosed as GD - that's what it was when I was pregnant with my two (I also had GD).

Stick to low GI foods, diet coke is fine it won't affect your blood sugar at all. Be careful with fruit, keep the serves very small as most fruits will send your sugars up. Meat is generally fine. Like fruits, some veges are good, others aren't - stay away from potatoes in particular as they send BSL's soaring in most people. Stay away from white bread also.
Go light on rice and pasta.
Basically a GD diet is a good, healthy pregnancy diet, the biggest thing you'll probably notice is that the portion sizes might be less than what you're used to.

All the best, you'll do fine :)

It would depend if that ws the result one hour post or two. the diagnostic criteria is around 7.9.( 2 hours post )
I had GDM with both my pregnancies. I have a genetic pre disposition as 6 members of my mothers family have type 2 diabetes.

You basically need to follow a low Gi diet. All fruits are not good - things like grapes and watermelon are high Gi and tend to give high readings. Stay clear of basically anything white - white bread, rice and potatoes. eat lots of fish / salad or meat/ salad. Wholegrain bread is usually okay. I must admit i did end up eating alot of cheese.

the only time my sugars went up was when i ate Asian takeaway.

Invest in a good diabetic cookbook to make things easier.

And remember iti s much better to know because we have a 40% chance of developing type 2 diabetes in the 15 years after a diagnosis of GDM. This way we can make sure we stay fit, healthy and watch our weight.

Good luck

I know that with normal diabetes .. and its management .. the levels SHOULD be .. between 4-8 .. to be considered healthy .. (so at ... 11 etc .. you need to drink water .. and not eat too much .. at 2-3 etc you need food and sugar) .. at 20 - you give insulin and call parents (this is a school situation.. the only experience I have with diabetes) ,..

11 doesn't sound DRASTICALLY high .. :hugs: its all manageable ..

I had GD in my 3rd pregnancy also... its all trial and error with what foods you can eat... hang in there til friday and dont stress TOO much because you will learn all you need to by the educators. I had insulin dependant GD also which never ended up being controlled but I had a healthy bub at the end and no problems since.

Goodluck with the rest of your pregnancy!

I had it too and had 3 injections a day of insulin after 20 weeks but then again I was 41 at the time and had been on IVF for 4 years and it couldnt be controlled by diet hence the insulin. Maybe yours will be diet controlled?
Read the labels. Dont eat anything that has more than 10gms fat or sugar per 100grams.
Wholegrain bread. Diet yoghurts, Wheetbix is fine - put a sliced bannanna on it but use "tone" milk (calcium enriched - no fat - you get used to it) You will also lose weight on this diet. At 20 wks when diagnosed I weighed 89 kilos. When I gave birth at 38 weeks I weighed 82kilos and my boy was a healthy 7lb 12oz (sorry girls I'm too old to follow the new way of weight - hope you know what 7lb 12 oz is!!!)
I've just gone on this diet again and have lost another 8 kilos over the past 2 months - so happy bout that! Stick with the diet and you and your baby will be fine.
