View Full Version : Wrapping Problems
Our bubba is 4 months old.... she will only sleep when wrapped... This is becoming a problem as she is now big enough and strong enough to get out of her wraps. So we had a dream baby who would go to be by 8pm and wake up around 5.30-6.30 now we can get up a couple times a night to re-wrapp her...
Any Suggestions?? the nurse said to wrap one arm and try that.. but if 1 arm is out the other will get out easily..
We use cot sheets now as she is not a little bubba....
I have just started using grobag sleeping bags on my 7.5month old who was wrapped for every sleep. At least if he wriggles around I know he is still covered, they maybe worth a try.
I wrapped him with one arm out and he mostly stayed that way (I was using muslin wraps). Sometimes I would just wrap him from the chest down and leave both arms out, but he was getting too big to be wrapped that's why I got the grobags.
Thanx for that... the problem we have with Sienna is once she can move her arms for some reason she wakes up. I tried sleeping bags, it only stops her arms from getting cold not keeping them still.... are grobags different from normal sleep suits...
We've got a grobag too, they are great except Sienna's arms will still be out so I don't think it'll solve all your problems. Maybe you could swaddle just her arms while she's in a grobag  Good luck Bel.
I am having the same problem at the moment with my 3 month old DD. She had been using a 'kiddopotomus swaddleme' wrap which has been great but now it doesnt fit her anymore and im contemplating getting the next size up for her. Its also made worse by the fact that shes beggining to teethe and always wants to put her fists in her mouth!

What about a hug bub or whatever it is called...... it is like a sleeping bag but it wraps the arms together like swaddling.
At play group today they suggested the swaddle me wraps.. i will have a look at toys r us as i know they had them...
Its an arm moving issue like twitch said once she can move her arms she is awake...
Ta guys
Bel, Jayden is the EXACT same way with the arms... we are still able to wrap, but it won't be long before he's too big, and I will have to figure out what do... can you let me know how the swaddle me wrap goes?

its getting too hot to WRAP aalliyah but i dress her warmly and i've cut long lengths of a sheet so it is only wide enough to wrap from her neck to her belly button if u know what i mean and i swaddle just her arms in when she is overtired... like a straightjacket:laughing:
Baby girl - get what your saying...
Steph_mum2Jayden - I bought the swaddle me wraps, Sienna got out once.. Although i have to learn to tighten it properly...
The last two nights we have given sienna her first lot of baby food also using the swaddle me and she has slept for 11 hours... both nights.. although she wanted to go to bed at 6pm hence why i am on at 6.30 again she is in bed....
To me the swaddle me is perfect.. As BG said with the swaddle me i can pull her legs out of it too not a problem for when it is hot.... also you can use it in the car if you have a problem in the car.. Sienna doesnt have any problem sleeping in the car.

If you dont ahve the money to buy the grogbags as they are like $70, just use a cot sheet there big enough 4 big babies and as weather is getting warmer you dont ahve to worry about them overheating
i had the same problem with my little one. His arms woke him up but yet he wanted to chew on his fists. I spoke to a midwife here and she said you can wean them off wrapping. One arm out, then just under the armpits...I did this and now he is in a grobag. Lucky for me he took to the change OK and I only endured a few restless nights until he got used to not being wrapped. I don't know if it would work for everyone, but it did work for me. I also have heard that they go through stages one week they don't mind not being wrapped and then all of a sudden they need to be wrapped again.
I just try anything when he is unsettled but most of the time now he wants his hands in his mouth.
Good luck.
I agree with the others that the kiddipotomus swaddleme wrap is very good. Mine stretched a bit and sometimes he got out but on the whole a worthwhile investment. It meant more sleep here at the time.
 the swaddle me combined with solids now is working a treat.. the grobags have arms... kinda sounds silly but when she can move her arms she wakes... the cot sheet works for a while but the swaddle me has velcro...

They feel much safer when their arms are nicely tucked in, and stops their startling reflex too.
