My 3 year old son has been out of nappies for awhile now and has no problem going and doing wees in the toilet or potty but he does his poo's in his undies or if he doesn't have them on it ends up on the floor. He is out of night nappies as well. We just don't know what to do with him. How do you get them to use the toilet or potty for poo's as well?
Any suggestions would be great.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Katherine, I had the same problem with my daughter! Drives you nuts!! I made up a chart for her and put it on the toilet wall. It was in the form of a grid with say, 15-20 squares. Every time Ella did a wee on the toilet she got one star on a square, and she got two stars for a poo. I never chastised her for not using the toilet, as they say not to, but I'd say "Ah babe, what a shame, we missed out on a star. Never mind, next time" Then, when the chart was full, I'd take her to a shop for a 'prize'. We would pick ours out at the start of each chart from a catologue, then I'd decorate the chart with related pictures. Of course some may see it as bribery and think I've given you terrible advice, I don't know. Anyway, it worked a treat for me! Then once the toilet issue was worked out, I used it on other things, like being tidy or using good manners. And my child is now perfect. HAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!! (NOT) but I love her anyway!!!! Good luck! Oh, and you can get stars from the newsagent, don't cost much.

We're going through the same thing with our son (who turns 4 in April). See my post "Will only poo in nappy" for some more tips from people. We've had some success with the star chart method - he did a few on the toilet, got his reward and then went back to asking for a nappy. One tip - don't make too big a deal of it if you do have success, this could be the mistake that we made. Please keep us up to date with how you go because we are still scratching our heads.

i used the star chart as well, exept when dd did a poo in the toilet she got a holographic sticker, one on her chart and one on her bed. it worked some time, but the thing that made her start going all the time was that her 5 year old cousin came over who my dd loves and looks up to, used the toilet and forgot to flush, my dd needed to do a wee after her, and noticed that her cousin had done a poo in the toilet, and hasent looked back since, dd does have the occassional accident. not sure how great that advice is to get someone to have a dump in your toilet and not flush, but kids are so weird when it comes to peer presure. good luck with it.
