Hi there!
I think it really depends on the denomination that you are getting the child christened in (ie: Catholic, Anglican, Uniting etc). Some denominations and or even the church parish themselves are not overly fussy about it and some are quite particular about it. Are you able to make an appointment with the minister at the church you are wanting to get your child christened in? I know that our church actually runs a once a week evening session over 4 weeks about the purpose and an explaintion of Christening/baptism for parents outside of the parish who want to have their child Christened/baptised. It is quite good. Many churches are offering a similar thing. The best advice may be from the church minister themselves.
Hope that is of some help.:)

hi diamonds :)
I personally don't think your little sis is too young... How cool will it be for your baby to have this cool hip young godmother/aunty :D
Generally a church christening would ask you to have godparents, as the ceremony is all about becoming a Christian - bringing the baby to the church to become part of God's family, the parents and the godparents vowing to bring the child up as a Christian and to encourage her to follow the Christian path, and to teach her about Jesus.
At least, that's how it is in our church ;)
When we chose godparents for Vallerie, we decided to have a couple who we respected, who we knew would always be good role models for her, who would have similar parenting values to ourselves, who would be reliable and trustworthy, and who would see it as an honour and treat it accordingly.

My DS's big sister is going to be his godmother - and she's just turned 15.
I was godmother to a boy when I was 14.
It's not too young.
no you dont have to have god parents to be christened... my actual parents are listed as my god parents on my form...
- some churches (presbyterian for example) dont 'have' god parents - the entire church promised to be with the child as he/ she grows - we go to a presby church... but will have four godparents.. they will just join us on the stage with Jack...
good luck with it all ...

Hi there
Im in the same boat, my catholic DH wants to get my daughter baptised, I am not of any religious faith. I asked the parish in my area, and they said it does depend on how strict the parish is, but the one we are going to says only one of the god parents needs to be christian (any type) and only one of the parents does too.
I dont think she is too young, she will be at least 20 before bubs wants to start asking questions about gad/faith etc so she has some time on her hands, unitl then she can be supportive "big sista" :)
