Here's the birth story of Maddison Lereena...
03/09/07
Checked into hospital at 830am to be prepped for a 1030am elective c/section because Squirt was breech and refused to turn. When Michael & I got to hospital we were very excited as you would expect but I must admit I was quietly sh1tting myself. I was really scared of getting the epi done.
Anyway we were shown to our room(27) which was a shared room right across from the bathing room and all you could hear were babies screaming...middy said it was because they were getting their heal pri*k test done.
I was given a lovely blue striped hospital gown (http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s78/Hope2BMumSoon/P9030004.jpg)and put in pressure stockings....such a lovely look and told that the anithitist(sp)( Dr. Livingstone) will be in shortly to explain what was going to happen. We waited what seemed like forever, talking in whispers as there was someone in the next bed and me still quietly sh1tting myself:o Dr. Livingstone came in and he was this lovely old gentleman around his 60's. I must say that I was reassured by his age, at least he had done a few of these in his time. He explained everything and then we were wheeled into the prep room to insert the epi.
Once in the prep room I was told to bunch up into a ball...pretty hard to do when you have a watermelon for a gut & was told to be very still. Michael was fantastic! I was sure that the nurses were going to have to pick him off the floor as he's not very good with needles but he held my hand through it all and wiped the tears that I couldn't help but shed. I was going to meet our baby soon! Once then epi was in the nurses then took Michael out of the room while I was inserted with a catheter & Michael was suited up (http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s78/Hope2BMumSoon/P9030037.jpg)for surgery. It wsa such an odd feeling slowly going numb from below my boobs, it's not something I want to repeat!
Off to surgery...wheeled into the operating theatre. There was about 12 people in there. Not sure what everyone was there for but I was obviously the star attraction. The drape was put up in front of my face so I couldn't see what was happening. There was an older lady off to my left that was standing on a step stool so that she coud get some leverage. Apparently Maddison's head was stuck under my ribs and lady on the left was heaving down on the top of my belly to push her out...this could be why I was so sore after. After about 10 minutes Maddison was born, her head was such a weird shape (http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s78/Hope2BMumSoon/P9030007.jpg)when she came out and apparently this is common with breech babies, as soon as any one saw her they would comment on it saying...ohhh she was a breech was she?
Maddison was checked over we then had our first family photo (http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s78/Hope2BMumSoon/P9030019.jpg)taken, then Michael & Maddy left to get all the other checks done. It was really lonely in theatre, here I just had a baby and I couldn't even hold her...it sucked! After about 30-40 minutes later I was sewn up and I joined my family in recovery. I got my first cuddle (http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s78/Hope2BMumSoon/P9030035.jpg) with Maddy. We were in recovery for about 45min before we were brought back to my room...yes its not an exciting story being so clinical & planned but it is a birth story non the less.
