Hi there girls!

Im nto sure if anyone can help me, Ive got a random question!

What side of the famiyl do twins run on? Like I mean.. uhmm.. how do I explain it..

DH's mum is a twin. Does that mean we have a higher chance of having twins, or would that only be if DH was a girl?

Its been on my mind now for awhile, and now its gotten the better of me! lol

Hope someone can help!

Amy

sorry darl, your DH and DHs mum have nothing to do with the multiple baby gene...

if your mum/grandma etc had twins you would have a chance of having twins, Its all in the female side :D

Thats what I thought, but DHs mum keeps telling me Im going to have twins.. lol So theres no chance the twins will come from DHs side?

They are due to come out on mums side though.. it was either my cousin or me, and so far its not my cousin lol..

good question. my grandmother was a twin and so far there are no twins in my family, her kids, their kids and my kids are all singletons:yes:

Twins run on the mums side, identical twins aren't hereditary and while you won't have twins just because your husband's mum is a twin, your daughter may have twins because of it (hence why it 'skips a generation)

the only twins that i know of is distant relations of dh's family, not sure if its from a female or male person though... so far no twins born as yet.. either side, not sure about my side though...:detective:

My grandmother was a twin and none of her kids or her grandkids have had them...

identical twins aren't hereditary

yep, they are pretty much pot luck. fraternal are the ones that are hereditary as the mother releases more then one egg.

a friend of mine had no mutiples in her family what so ever and she fell with triplets...it was a fraternal pregnancy with 2 in one egg and 1 in another...

The family history for you to look at would be on your mother’s side, and if there is not a long history of twins, either identical or fraternal, you will not have a high chance of having twins.

This means that you have a fairly good chance of having twins if genetics, your body, your age, the right sperm, and the right egg meet up.

There usually is no way to predict twin births, but every woman has a slight chance of conceiving twins.

I think everyone has a chance of having twins whether there are twins in either family or not.
I had twin boys (fraternal), My husband is a twin and his mum is a twin. So there was no skipping of generations there. The only twins on my side that I know of are my Pops grandmother had 5 sets of twins.
And even though my twins are 3rd generation twins a doctor has told me my twins had nothing to do with my husband (in a way) as I produced two eggs at the same time. So its nothing to do with genes for me.

Ditto what seekrit said.

No multiples in my family whatsoever but still here I am and have had 3 multiple pregnancies. Personally I think it's just the luck of the draw.

Just a random fact but did you know that it is possible and very likely to have identical twins if you have IVF even if only one was transferred? The egg is more susceptible to splitting. Interesting!

ETA - Mine were naturally conceived (ie no medical intervention at all) just something I found out about not too long ago and thought I would share.

We had a psychic reading done, that said we are going to have twins, plus starting IVF makes the chances higher.. Id love twins, and so would DH.

I guess its just going to be luck of the draw for us then! :D

Thanks so much for your help ladies!

I've been told the more pregnancies you've had and the older you get, the higher chance you have to conceive multiples as you can release more eggs. Not sure if this happened with me, but all up I've had 5 pregnancies with 3 being successful. The twins were out of the blue for us.
Our twins are fraternal and as I don't know my biological dad or his family, I dont know if the gene thing may have been his side, ie. he's the skipped generation, like maybe his mother had twins and then he passed them on that way. :detective:

Fraternal twins run on the mothers side... as it's the release of 2 eggs at ovulation.

Idenitcal twins are a fluke... anyone can have them.

Your chances of having twins increases as you age, as an older mother is more likely to release more than one egg at ovulation.

Twins are great... except going through the terrible 2's.... then it's a nightmare and you want to
a) die
b) wake up
