Just wondered is someone could help me.

My sister had a scan in Brisbane (public system) today and they said that her baby at 8 weeks 4 days from Crown to Rump was measuring as 9 weeks gestation, but the limbs don't match (meaning the legs). They could see tiny buds for legs. She is freaking out as you would.

Can they really make this type of call so early, really the baby is still so small at this gestation???

I told her to go and get a referral from a gp to go and pay for a scan and get a second opinion.

The public system have told her to come back in 4 weeks as it is still too early to tell.

She had an early pregnancy test at 3 weeks come up positive, so I we are pretty sure she is atleast 8 weeks 4 days. She only dtd the twice and that was early to mid cycle and obviously that was good enuf for her to fall pregnant. They told her today that she probably has her dates wrong and the baby is probably younger then 8 weeks 4 days even though they did say the crown to rump was measuring correctly. The babies heart rate was 170bpm.

She is so confused and just doesn't know what to do.

I bet she's so confused, how awfull for her

in about 4 more weeks they will beable to have a clearer view cause as of 12wks bubs is fully formed, so they will beable to see better, so untill then she'll have to sit back and hope for the best unfortunatly,

:hugs: to your sister

Hey Sheree, lovely to see you again, love the photo of Mr L by the way:D

Do you know if your sister had an internal scan? My sil was with the public system and at 9 weeks or so, they didnt give her an nternal scan and told her that they couldnt even see a baby just an empty sac. She was so worried and got a second opinion, everythng turned out to be fine. When I was pg, I was told that Miss E's head was out of proportion with her abdomen!!!! But everything was fine by the next scan. This must be all so worrying for her, but I think a lot lies in the skill of the songrapher and whether or not the scan was done with an internal probe as it is hard to see much at this stage via the abdomen probe thingy.
I hope everything is ok:fingerscrossed:

Hi littlepickle, you little girl is so cute. Nice to hear from you. You're a mod now huh?

Yeah she had a vaginal scan too and I think that is where they saw tiny little buds for legs.

Gosh I am so worried for her.

Thanks to Gizmo and hayleysmum 2. Gosh I would hate to think she has to wait 4 weeks to get sum answers, which I agree may be the only option, but for now a 2nd opinion wouldn't hurt. Well we will see, she is all offensive how I told her to go and pay for a private scan for peace of mind and she snapped and said what do you think the public system is not good. I said to her, look only trying to help, you do what you think is best really.

Hey little pickle the topic header for this thread I must have typed wrong. It should read, SCAN SHOWS NO LEGS. Are you able to change it????

If money is an issue, and she wants peace of mind, I remember reading a post that mentioned a place on the gold coast did free scans. Wish i could remember what section though!! I would be freaking out too, not the nicest thing to be told.. and then have to wait a MONTH to get confirmation! Actually I wouldn't be able to rest until I knew one way or the other what was going on! xx

Poor thing, I guess I could understand that she might be feeling a bit defensive at the moment, it is probably just the worry talking. I think that at this stage very little can be seen on any scans and if she were to have another scan in a few weeks, they will be able to tell her more. Chances are everything will be ok. Like I said, my sil went through this, but all turned out well in the end. I am keeping my :fingerscrossed: for her X

The number of times I have met people who have been told such horrible things during a scan, only to go on to have a healthy bub is quite astounding.
