View Full Version : turn a tot car seat
hey all
bubby is getting 2 big 4 his capsule & was wondering if amy1 has a turn a tot car seat?
I thought it would be good as he always passes out in the car :) it maybe easier to get him out than a regular car seat & also as we have a 4wd
They have these on special at toys r us for $299 at the moment & am wondering if i should go & buy 1?
Any replies would be appreciated
Thanks
Kat

I had one for my ds and it's the best!!!
He's only recently moved to his booster seat from his Turn a Tot... he's 3 in december.
I had a hatch back when he was a baby so it was a great thing for me.... Definately recommend it:yes:
Hi there,
I was going to buy the turn a tot for my son but I was informed that the turning feature was only available for reward facing (9 kgs). It then becomes like a normal carseat. This is however what I was told - it would be worth looking it up online and reading the manual? I loved the fabric on it though. I ended up getting the Meridan AHR by Safe n Sound.

Yup:yes: that's right, it's reward facing up to the suggested weight and then turns to a normal car seat :)
I mainly bought this as when I had my hatch back I needed to be able to swivel the seat around in order to get him out while it was reward facing as I had no back doors...:) If I had a normal seat without being able to turn him around, would of made life very difficult getting him in and out of the car lol.

I am curious about these seats. So when you turn it around do you have to undo the anchor strap each time or does it still turn while sthe anchor starp is still attached. Sorry I have been wondering about it for ages but was too :o shy to ask.
hi girls,
thanks so much 4 the replies - so when it faces forwards (which is what ill have 2 do now as hes getting too big 4 rear facing) it doesnt turn around?
Sorry if its a dumb question - having a baby has made me a little vague!

Nope, won't turn when it's forward facing...when I had it (for all of one week cos I hated it) the turning wasreally difficult. Thecorners of the seat were really hard to manouvre. I ended up getting rid of it cos I hated it so much, and the angle it put B on looked sooo uncomfortable. I got a S&S AHR Meridian retractor instead and love love love it - I'd recommend it to anyone.
ah ok! thanks for that!
It gives us something else to think about!
I kinda only wanted it 4 the turny feature to help getting bubby outta the car
Thanks 4 clearing it up!
Am dragging my husband to the shops so ill take a look at the one u have
Thanks Again
Kat

No prob. Thats what I was wanting it for too, I didn't realise it could only be used to turn in rear position. And when you think about it, they should make the corners less cornerish and more round IYKWIM, its hard to turn a 'square' ish shaps against a flat shape (seat) without having to wriggle it heaps (and get really angry with it). If you get one with a retractor feature, it's a lot quicker to tighten when they're wriggling, trying to escape, instead of having to pull on the thingo down the front. The meridian is about $550 with the retractor feature. But I'd recommend S&S no matter what. They have the best reputation IMO and always win the test for safest etc. Even if you get a cheaper one without the rearward facing. But if you're planning another bub, I'd def recommend it, cos it will last. And it goes up to 18kg - so in my case DD will prob be in it until she's at school! (She's 14mths and 8.5kg)
haha thanks - thats weird they dont turn after its rear facing - its just like a normal car seat then isnt it?!
My bubbys 8kilos now he's 6months but hes 71cms long (hoping he wont be a giant!)
Everyones saying just to leave him in his capsule but he just looks too long in there & his feet pop out the ends!

Yeah, it's a stoopid idea (IMO) about that turn a tot.
They can stay in capsule till 9kg, just maybe tuck his legs in till you find the seat you want. Good luck with it!!!

I disagree... it was a life saver for me :D
I had a mitsubishi mirage so only 2 front doors, having it be able to turn around when he was a newborn to get him in and out made my life ten times easier
It's more designed for situations like that while they are tiny babies :)

I agree it would be easier when there are babies but if hes sleeping i just get the capsule out & he has a nap in there 4 a bit - if i didnt have a capsule i would of bought a turn a tot from the start!
The only reason i got the capsule is because it fitted onto his pram so i could take him out easily when at the shops etc & it would clip in - guess i wasnt thinking till after he was too big 4 it!
Guess ill know 4 next time!

Hey hun:wave:
When you turn it around, there's the strap that goes around the whole seat... all you do is loosen it and then turn the seat around to get bubs out... then when putting back in, you turn the seat back to the regular position and tighten the strap back up into position :)

Yeah a close friend of mine had a capsule too.... they are very handy things!! Especially if they are sleeping in there, you don't have to wake them lol.
