Yesterday we had the biggest scare when i found a rather big lump of fluid on the back left hand side of elliot's head(13 weeks). It moves around when u touch it. We rushed straight to the doctors in tears who reassured us straight away that this is completely normal. He told us that it is a result of the pressure from the skull moving into place, and where baby is favouring to lay while asleep.

This reassured us, but it has still been a massive shock and i feel quite ill looking at it.

Has anyone else ever had this happen?

Nope, sorry, I've never heard of that either. I'd be getting another opinion too...even if it is nothing to worry about. Did the dr/chn tell you how to get rid of it?
Our bubs were born on the same day and I've not noticed any lumps like that on her. My DS had a really flat spot on one side of his head when he was a few mths old, from favoring that side, but there was never any lump.
The dr probly is right, but I would still worry til the lump had gone away, so knowing what I am like with things that don't sort themselves out within a few days, I'd probly see another dr too...and another...and another, until the lump was gone.

Good luck, I hope the dr & chn are right and it really is nothing to worry about :) Let us know what happens.

They both said it would go away on its own, and while it appears slightly smaller - its still there! Dr said if we were still concerned in 2 weeks to go back. I will however spk to the paed tomorrow - thanks for your help. I'll let u know!

One of the videos they showed us in prenatal classes had all the different things that can occur in newborns - one of those things was a fluid bulge on the bubs head - I haven't heard of it happening in an older child... but if it can happen to newborns it maybe more common than you think...

definately get a second opinion though ...

what hospital did you go to??? I love my hospital and I would be heading back there to talk to midwifes... they see sooo many kids they would know if it is common or not... (I have rung my hospital 4 times since I left  even late at night) - might be an alternative to another GP?

good luck ... let us know what happens
((hugs))

Yes, i know what u mean here - but it isn't that. We were told the same at our classes. Yes, i may try calling the hosp also - just to relieve my mind. I mean fluid on a newborns head is not really something to take lightly is it - not that this is what either of the professionslas did - it just doesnt seem to be as common as we were told.

thank u :o

Hey Kate, hope you got to talk to Mike and he had reassured you. Let me know how it all went. Been thinking of you and lil Elliot, hope you are both well.

I have known Mike (paed) since Em was born and I take his word as bible I would trust him with Em's life anyday. So if he says it is nothing to worry about like the CHN and GP then it is nothing ot worry about. Glad to hear that is is starting to get smaller tho.
Take care and call when you can;)
