View Full Version : DH doesn't want to go full time clothie.
We have always been cloth at home and sposies while out, unless short on sposies and then ill take cloth out. I was always concerned about the leaking and smell of bringing it home, not to metion the bulk of flats
DD is still in nappies for overnight but in sposie.
I have been thinking about going full time cloth with MCNs, but DH doesn't want to, he doesn't want to be carrying extra stuff and bring home dirty nappies, he wants to dump while on the run.
In the end ill get my way:D cause im the washer and mainly out with the kids, so it will have little effect on him, except for weekends away.
I tried to explain MCNs aren't as bulky as flats ect.
Anyone got any suggestions to make this easier on him?
What about going away? what does everyone else do?
Is this a reasonable expectation that i can go away for a weekend/week/camping and use MCN.

Depends how many you've got, how big your wetbag is, how often your baby poos, and if you have facilities to dispose of the poo responsibly, iykwim.
To make it easier for your DH, I'd look at AIOs so he doesn't have to think about it at all, anymore than he would have to think about using a sposie, iykwim, and also maybe consider buying some disposable flushable liners to use when you're out of the house - that way you can just dump the poo and run - therefore won't be carting around smelly nappies :)
HTH :)
my dh was the same....
BUT i went cloth anyway, and now he looooves the cuteness of cloth! he forever searching the stash for a 'cool' nappy lol
i suppose to him, i wash and dry and stuff them, so he just has to put them on and take them off just like sposies
Have you got a wet bag for using cloth while out?

Well we are in cloth full time with 2, so yes it's possible to and stay 100% happy with cloth  :D
I have also used cloth while away, we were away for a week, and staying in an apartment with a laundry on another floor, even though I had to go up and down a flight of stairs with my washing I would still do it again.
I went to QLD recently with Lachlan though, and used sposies, due to the fact that I was flying and had space issues, and was very sad to have to give up the clothies for 6 days  But to be honest it did make life easier while I was away, and out and about every day.
My DH happily went 100% cloth, in fact he didn't even want to get 'just in case' sposies. He even kept using them with Noah while I was away, washing them, and putting them together, all of Lachlan's were sitting there ready to go :smiliedance: So if my DH can do that, yours can let you do all the work going full time cloth :D Good Luck!!
we've got 2 in full time cloth, and Gabby's part time at the moment.. but I'm buying supplies today to get him full time too !:smiliedance:
(converting my flats into fitteds... coz I'm just too lazy to fold.. and DH wouldn't get it.)

How are you converting you're flats to fitteds? how many layers etc...
I was thinking of doing 2 layers of terry... but sewing a fleece pocket onto it.. and making some 4-6 layer terry boosters for the pockets... and then I can boost with other stuff too if i need to.. and bubs will have a staydry inner..:D
toying with the idea of adding a double fleece outer too.... .. but will probably just use covers.

I actually don't have a wet bag....I just use old plastic bags. If I'm at the shops or someones house (or anywhere there's a toilet) I just dump the poo and put the nappy in the bag and tie it up.
On holidays, I take my nappy bucket - with dry pailing, there's no need to soak, so I just pop them in the bucket and wash when I need to....usually there's a washing machine and line wherever we go.
DH gets an A+ for mcn use - he stuffs, he washes, he even hangs them out the "right" way.

I used to do this too before i got wetbags ! Works just fine
I also have a great DP whos does everything bar the washing cause he still cant figure the machine out  thats ok though he cooks every nite hehehe.

That is a great idea

I use mcn full time and you know what, they just don't smell like a sposie does when lying around, plus you pop them into a nappy bag and zip it up and voila!

away.
Anyone got any suggestions to make this easier on him?
.
 Give him a slap around the ear and tell him to wake up to himself  No just explain the money factor and they only have to be washed every 2 days and much much slimmer than terry flats  :fingerscrossed: You get your way
I always keep my pockets stuffed and ready to go.
DH even does it now.
He loads the machine every night, takes out all the inserts and even rinses the poopy ones they haven't rinsed properly at kindy on the days the boys are there (yes, the boys go to a child care that is fine with us using MCN's... originally when I told them I was going cloth, they thought I meant terry flats,... and htey were fine with that too!! But very pleasantly surprised when the MCN's showed up. )
Cost factor sold DH.
And it's been excellent to not have to buy a box of nappies (except for night time) for 6 months!
Oh And I agree with Three Sweet Peas... the smell of sposies is disgusting.. :barf: Gabby's been wearing them lately, and I just feel sick opening the bin.... gotta love washing that stench away.

yep just tell him about how MUCH it is buying sposies! I used to be spending $20 a week buying my girl sposies.
DH doesn't like cloth, he calls them "hippy nappies" LOL, but at least he puts them on our daughter and doesn't reach for the back up sposies!
They are WAY trimmer than flats, have cool funky colours and work out to be so much cheaper!
My DH won't EVER rinse a dirty nappy, and most of the time the nappys that come off are thrown on the floor, but thats okay with me  He's getting the hang of it, and I've caught him scrounging through the stash to find a "cool" one a few times. :p

My dh has not touched a sposy for a week tomorrow since me buying a stash of MDC nappies. he is the stay at home dad too so washes, and deals with the poop and hangs them out to dry worst case he will use our terry flats as back ups YAY. now what do i do with the left over dispoasables? gifts or use them:confused:

rnjboyce - i would keep them and use them you never know when they might come in handy. My DS had a gastro bug and thank god for the extra sposies i had at the time bc he went through all my MCN in half a day! Also handy for out and about or if you get a baby sitter or another unusual occasion.
My DH doesn't have any idea about MCN, how it all works etc and that's OK with me. He hasn't changed DS in 18m!
We are full time cloth but when i am in hosp having bub 3 i think DH & grandma will be using sposies. Hmm i wonder if DH will actually change DS then or palm off to Grandma all the time???? Will wait and see.

 18 months!!!!
I'd kick DH if he didn't do 50% of the nappy changes...
You have much more patience than me!!.

see i dont understand that
using cloth when out is JUST AS EASY as sposie, just you put in into a wetbag instead of the revolting stinky bins!
there is no exxtra work involved¬
Just don't buy disposables and then he has no choice.

My DH was hesitant at first, but now he uses MCN confidently and happily. I just make sure I have them all assembled and stacked, so for him, they're just as easy as disposables. We use flushable liners, so he doesn't have to deal with poo. All he does is chuck the used nappy in a nappy bucket. For him, it's no different to disposables!

Wow, I'm so lucky - my lovely DH deals with pooey nappies whenever he needs to. We don't use liners, even when we're out, so he's happy to scrape and then use the lil squirt. He helps wash, peg out and stuff and reassemble the nappies. What a gem!!
The other day DH took DS out and i noticed he had put a flat terry on him.:smiliedance:
He said to me today if that is what i want to do it will be okay as he doesn't usually do the washing:smiliedance:

Went out today and those bins were enough to convert me to use MCN while out, they were gross:barf:

:smiliedance: that's great!! You could also appeal to DH's financial concerns and point out the cost savings (as per my last post :D ).
Oh, and those nappy bins really are :barf:
As to finace, we have scrimpped and saved since DD was born, DH has recently got a new job earning a little more money:D. He is sick of us watching every dollar and his response would be, "well, im earning more money now, so we can afford to splurge a little"
I think money would be the wrong reason to convice him, have to be something more passionate, like environment ect....

My hubby is just happy that I have a hobby now. I love making my own MCN's and he's glad that I've finally found something that I enjoy doing:)
In saying that he hasn't changed DS3's nappy since we started with MCN's but he does put the MCN pull up I made for DS2 on at night:yes:
He wouln't mind doing the wet ones for DS3 but I cant really see him coping so well with cleaning the soiled ones. I dont mind though:)
