View Full Version : When to start offering more than 1 solid meal???????
Hi All
DS is 4 1/2 months old, and has been one solid meal of farex mixed with fruit each afternoon for approx a month now. (please don't jugde me for starting him ealry on solids, he is much happier for it).
I was just wondering when should I start him two solid meals a day . How do I time it .
He seems to be getting hungry in the morning now, and mum (who is looking after him, as I have returned to work) has offered it to him at this time and he has eaten it. Oh he has BM while I am at work, and 1 formula feed a day.
Please help  .

Don't worry Belinda - I wont judge you - I started Bec on solids at 41/2 months too. Tried at 4mths with Hannah but she didn't take to it - tried Hannah again at 5mths didn't take to it - tried Hannah at 6mths and loved it (either that or she just did it to stop me annoying her and shoving food in her face all the time   ) anyway back to the issue at hand.......... I gave Bec rice ceral once a day about 1pm only for about 1week then I introduced apple as well - she would have this about say 11am then the rice ceral at say 2-3ish (did the 2meals a day as daycare said she was guzzling her once a day solids). And only just last week I have introduced pumpkin (to change from apple or the rice ceral for a change) - but she has had gastro so I have stopped solids all together for a week at the dr's advice/suggestion. She also gets the bottle formula for brekkie, then just after 11am bottle (about 1/2 hr later) then solids again at 2-3 then another bottle 1/2 later then bottle for dinner around 6'ish then bottle around 10pm (which just over the last two nights I have tried to cut the 10pm feeds and it seems to be working at this stage - but don't know if it is due to her being sick).
Anyway hope this helps you out - sorry for the long ramble.

Dont worry i too started bubs on solids early :p
Bubs will pretty much let you know when he is ready as he will become more restless as he becomes hungry. So slowly try out another meal i would suggest mid morning also but of course make sure a bottle or breast is offered so they fill on that first so say he has a feed at 8am then give him his farex at 9am. Make sure he still gets all he needs from either formula or breast at this stage & the food as a top up IYKWIM.
Trust me if bubs is eating it now then he wants it just as they dont let themselves starve they dont over eat either !
Good luck sounds like your doing well :)
Thank for the advice guys.
Mum has been saying for a couple of days that she though he needed a second solids meal so I will try it tomorrow and see how we go.
