Im currently using a terry toeweling nappy and a mircofibre cloth inside my new pocket nappy. (I have used it twice, first time at attempting MCNs)
It is rather bulky and i like to attempt MCNs while out instaed of sposies.

what can i use/buy so it is slimmer but absorbent?

How many layers should i need( i realise each child is different, but i have no idea where to start)

Both the Happy Heiny inserts and Green Kids hourglass inserts are quite trim.
What brand pocket nappy do you have?

I don't use pockets much anymore, but when I do for day use I often only stuff it with the microfibre booster and that's it. I know it is not enough for some, but she's not a heavy wetter and I change her as soon as she wets at home anyway so it's fine for us. :)

Then the HH or GK inserts will fit really well then :)

The Green Kid hourglass inserts are 4 layers really nice and thick hemp, and hold a lot

I use either a bamboo trifold or a hemp trifold in my pocket nappies, they are still very trim. I use happy heiny, fuzzi bunz and peapod pockets. If I need an extra boost I'll put in a microfibre insert as well but dont usually need to unless I want extended use for along car trip etc.

I love my cotton babies one size microfibre inserts..
I find them extremely trim and absorbant.

I for extra boosting at naps and stuff I use a hemp booster.
