I recently bought a starter nappy pack (13 nappies and inserts) from Green Kids.

Whenever I put them on Evie she is really grumpy and seems uncomfortable. I didnt think it could possibly be from the nappies but as soon as i put a disposable on her she is happy again! At night they leaked everywhere even with the extra boosters in them. With a disposable she goes the whole night without needing changing. She also gets quite a bad nappy rash from them.

I find that I keep using disposables now and i have $450 worth of nappies sitting there going to waste!

Is it normal to take a bit of getting used to? I'm not sure what to do if she doesn't take to them! :(

Green Kids are a great nappy so please be assured they WILL work!

Now, your inserts, did you wash them at elast 3 times before using? Only with half the normal amount of detergent? No fabric softener?

Cloth nappies can take a while for bub to get used to. They feel different, and are bulkier. But with just a little time, probably only 2 or 3 days, your baby won't notice and will be perfectly happy in them :)

Thanks Phineas

I'm using the bamboo inserts which said i only had to wash them once, not 3 times like the hemp. But i have used them on her a bit now so they all will have been washed a fair few times now. I do use only half the normal amount of detergent and no fabric softener.

Ill admit i only tried them once at night, but went through three of them that night and the first 2 leaked, so i haven't tried them again. She was also very restless at night with them on, and happier once i put a disposable on her.

I tend to use them for 2 days and she is grumpy for those 2 days, then i use disposables the next day and she is happier, so i use them for a while, then i feel guilty and try the clothies again!

I'm also worried about the nappy rash, she never really got it before, until i put those nappies on her. And now at the moment she has a BAD nappy rash due to teething, so I'm reluctant to try the mcns on her again in case it makes it worse. And its hard not being able to use creams, because i've tried everything on her for this nappy rash, and the only thing that seems to be working is the Curash Cream, and I wouldnt be able to use that with the mcns!

Perhaps pocket nappies just don't work on your little one???? I have GK's in my stash and they worked wonderfully on my DS at night when he was in nappies but are useless on my DD during the day and night - they leak something chronic.

Babybeehinds bamboo nappies are great for night time with a bamboo booster and a cover, I use PUL but some of the cloth mums here like to use wool or fleece. DD has never had a leak. She's in them for 12 hours and has a 250ml bottle during the night too.

Also you can use rash cream if you use a liner inside your nappy, like microfleece or a flushable or disposable liner. I use curash powder as this doesn't effect the mcn's and I also use a microfleece liner so DD's bottom stays dry.

Do what Bibs said and use a liner so you can use the Curash. If you don't have any, just go to a fabric store and buy a bit of polarfleece or microfleece, and cut a few rectangles.

Keep persisting. I'd say that your little one is adjusting to the mcn's but also a lot of the grizzliness is just coincedence. I vaguely remember thinking my bub (who is also named Evie :D) wasn't sleeping as well in cloth as disposables. But then I ran out of sposies so kept with the cloth and I don't think I've thought of it since. And she is perfectly happy in cloth :)

Keep going, trust me, you won't regret it!

I felt the same when i started with cloth... bub did not like them at all... he leaked thru the night etc etc

now though, i have a wide range in my stash and some work great on him and some dont

baby beehinds bamboo, with 2 bamboo boosters and a cover (wool or PUL) he leaks thru at night... yet a blueberry diaper he doesnt... just shows each nappy works differently on each bub

and, now if i put a sposie on bub, he rips it off and brings me cloth :D :D

Jess, the Baby beehinds bamboo work great for Bails at night. I am sure that she will get used to them. I think I have some fleece left over from sewing, it would be perfect for liners, let me know if you want it. :hugs:

Thanks for all the help! I was contacted by a Green Kids as well and they tried to help me out too. I think Evie is just being fussy because she got so used to disposables for her first 7 months. I hate the thought now of using disposables, so ill keep trying with the clothies. If all else fails, i'll keep them for when i have another bub some day!!

Thanks again!!

Oh and Mel, it would be great if i could get those fleece bits!! Maybe next week if we catch up (see in the melb thread)? Hope you are well :)

Everyone has given great advice so i wont add to much except to say have a fiddle with inserts as you may find your lo needs more or less stuffing if that makes sense.

Also i can suggest one of the best creams you can use & its from the Brauers range so totally natural, isnt greasy & you will have no dramas with it on your nappies. Its about $12 for a tube & i find it works that quickly i dont need much & lasts ages ( unless you have a 2yr old who loves to try to squeeze it out ! ) you should be able to get it from your chemist or they can order it otherwise try your health food shop !

Good luck GK's are great nappies but sometimes they dont work for every bub !
