My nerly 7 week old son has thrush on his tongue. I went to CYH today for his check up and the nurse said to use Daktarin. I got this, however the box said for use over 6 months.......has anyone else used this on younger babies? I'm worried it will make him sick.... :(

My bub had thrush and I had daktarin to treat it - but I'm sure it was for her age of a few weeks. I had to put it in her mouth after a feed and also on my nipples after a feed as it is transferred. Maybe they gave you the wrong one?

Is it oral gel? If so, it's fine to use on newborns :)

My product of choice is the Nilstat Oral Drops but the Daktarin Oral Gel works too. If you are breastfeeding put the gel on your nipples to otherwise you might end up reinfecting each other.

I ended up going back and getting Nilstat Drops as I was so worried with the Daktarin saying for 6 months and over!! It has pretty much cleared up over night with it! :)

Just letting you know I just went through a similar thing with my 6 week old Ds and the reason they don't recommend on the packaging to use DAKTARIN on children under 6 months is because of the choking hazard. My doctor and the pharmacist said that it's ok to use only if you apply it to the baby's inside cheeks with your finger and only apply a little at a time.

If your worried just give your local pharmacy a call:thumbsup:
