View Full Version : swimming with bubs
Hi All,
Just wanted to recommend swimming with baby! We had our first lesson this morning - it was great! She was so absorbed by everything - so much to see, feel, experience - so overwhelming the only time she cried was when I tried to get her out of her togs!! We came home and she crashed! sound asleep! Mind you before she slept she chatted away for ages - had alot to think about!!
Of the 3 kids in the lesson she was the youngest (7.5months), the other were over 2yrs - she thought this was great because she loves watching big kids!! I love the idea of her feeling safe, relaxed and comfortable in the water, especially living in QLD!
Anyway - thumbs up to swimming!

Hi Jessica,
I am glad to hear your little one enjoyed swimming!!!! I have been looking locally for somewhere for Grace to start going for a while now. Whereabouts do you go? We are on the Northside.
Grace is now 8 1/2 months and I really would like her to get used to the water and learn to enjoy it. She hates the beach but I guess the noise and the wind is a little off putting when you are that little.
Cheers
Paula
Hi Paula,
Were also on the Northside. We go to Chermside pool. Its $10 a lesson - worth it I think! This was the first week of the season - they go by school terms - so this is the first week of an 11 week term. I'd ring ASAP to see if you can get in for this season!
Good Luck - enjoy!
P.S My little one aslo HATED the beach!! Totally different story in the pool - thank goodness!! ;)

Thanks Jessica,
We are actually very close to the Chermside pool. I will call and see how we go. Grace was born 24/7/04 so she and your little girl are very similar ages.
Might see you there.
Cheers

Hi there, just wanted to say to you that I agree. I have taken my son swimming since he was just 4 months only ( it does seem little), but i cannot begin to tell you how much he has learnt. He just learns so much from every lesson and you can see him develop a new skill all the time.
We attend the Westside swimming at Zest at Jindalee, in case anyone is interested.
There is only 6 in the class and it is also nice to do something for your child that is fun as well as learning.
Keep it up.

Hi Jessica,
Just thought I would let you know I got Grace into the classes. You were so right, she loved it. I wasn't sure how she would go but she just loved kicking and smacking the water. Her favourite was crawling on the mat they place in the water.
I am so glad I saw your post...
Cheers
Paula
PS. The three hour sleep which followed was great for me too!!!
Hi Everyone,
My DD has been going to swimming lessons since she was 4.5 months (she is now just 7 months) and absolutely loves it and so do I.
We go to Acquatic Achievers which is behind the Aspley Hypermarket. Its indoor and the pool is heated which is great for all weather. Classes are small no more than 6 and staff are great. My DD loves going under the water and isn't fazed by anything. I agree the sleep afterwards is fantastic and we always look forward to our classes. Her little legs going hyper when she sees the pool each week is the funniest part.
If you have the opportunity i'd definately recommend it.
Cheers

I've been thinking about taking my son (7 1/2 mths) to swimming classes and after reading your posts I definately think I will. We've been doing gymboree for a term but it can be very 'full on' and noisy for a little boy. I have been taking him in the pool since Christmas and he loves it but was a bit concerned about winter approaching even though the pool I would go to is heated & indoors (chapel hill).
