:hair: My allergies are driving me crazy!! Is there anything I can take to relieve the symptoms (stuffy nose, itchy eyes) while breastfeeding?

Check with your pharmacy but my doctor and pharmacist have both given claratyne the okay for breastfeeding - there are a number of antihistimines that have been around for a long time and have been tested etc and fall into the safe category.

Thanks for that

I won't take it often but it would be nice to know there's something to take when my allergies get really bad. I'll have a chat to the doctor next time I go.

Fenugreek is actually used as a cold reliever, the added bonus is it can boost your milk supply too.

i took ploaramine in the last months of my pregnancy,

I get very bad allergies and was always taking cold and flu tablets every night to stop my blocked up nose.
I've recently started using Brauer nasal sprays, the decongestant one I think, it's fantastic too. Not a single cold tablet for about 2 months. You can get allergy basal spray and one other one too.

(hmm.. that sounds like a really bad demtel ad for Brauer)

Hey!
Here's a bit of recycled info but I thought it was useful. I'm in the same boat as you at the moment with allergies and now I have a sinus infection/head cold sort of thing to go along with it and it sucks.
I've taken Polaramine forever as I've always been told it's safe. It does make me sleepy and I only take 1 tablet a day, but I might go get myself some claratyne for during the day and take polaramine at night if I need it.
Hope this helps!

Hayfever and allergies
There are some antihistamines on the market that do not cause sleepiness, and of those, ioratadine (Claratyne) is the safest for you to use.
Terfenadine (Teldane) and astemizle (Hismanal) have occasionally been known to cause restlessness and irritability in breastfed babies, so they are best avoided.
Most of the older antihistamines may cause drowsiness as a side effect. But they are safe to use while breastfeeding and include dexchlorphenirimine (Polaramine) and pheniramine (Avil).
Nasal sprays such as budesonide (Rhinocort) and beclomethasone (Aldecin and Beconase) are quite safe and may be prescribed for you by
your doctor.
