View Full Version : more children after placenta accreta
I am TTC cycle #2 for my 4th child. I had my first 3 children in my early twenties, the 3rd one nearly 10 years ago. With this 3rd delivery I had a retained placenta. I don't know if I had any bleeding and I wasn't advised that I needed a blood transfusion. I have never had a Caesarian nor placenta previa, supposedly the 2 main contributors to increasing placenta accreta. What I wanted to know is if anyone had had placenta accreta and gone on to have more children with no further problems. Thanks in advance for any comments or links.

I am guessing you had an emergency op to have the placenta removed after delivery?
My friend had this with her DD and again with her DS. She didn't have any probs conceiving DS. Her OB said should she have more children it is basically a guarantee that she would need an op following delivery to have the placenta removed again.
Thanks mummabear. Yes I was given and epidural and sedatives, during the manual removal, the wouldn't give a GA so soon after birth. It was 10 years ago, so it's a bit nervous about it all.

Sounds like you were in a better position than my friend. She had a GA both times almost immediately after delivery as the manual manipulation failed.
I would speak to your Dr and work out a plan of action incase it does happen again. It came as a shock to my friend but they were better prepared the second time around and it worked out much better.
Fingers crossed it was just a one off thing for you seeing as you didn't have any probs with the others.
I think I would have preferred the GA ! Trying to roll up into a ball felt like it took me hours, and bit of a disappointment for me, I never wanted an epidural, and to get through three deliveries and need one anyway !!!
I had no problems with the first 2, but I also remember a large fibroid on my uterus was sighted during the ultrasound of my 3rd so I don't know if this is anyway connected to the placenta accreta, maybe just a coincedence. At very least I can be prepared for it this time.
:D
