View Full Version : reversable carseat Q?
hi, just wanted to know at what age you turn the car seat back facing the front? just curious. as i hate not being able to see bub!
thanks.
I think its when your baby is 8 kilos. So that can range from baby to baby. Mine didnt get turned around until they where 7 months.

Hi, i have an 11 month old and I turned her around at about 10 months. I think they also suggest they need good head control and the longer you can leave it the better it is. But she is happier being able to see me!

I turned Ryan around at about 7 months... He has always had excellent head control and he was becomming really whinging being in the car.... since turning him around he loves going in the car!
oh ok i didnt realise it was that far away!
Indy is 2 and half months old and is about 6.5 kg's
i had capsules with my other kids (a long time ago) and then they went into car seats from there. so i had never used one of these ones.
thanks for that
It should say somewhere on your carseat.
I think they usually reccomend either 8-9kg or six months.
I turned Lucas at 4.5 months, he has great head control, weighs 8.5kgs and hated being backwards. He loves it! I have the fisher price car seat which still has the option to have a slight recline in the forward facing position otherwise I would not have turned him yet.
HTH cheers Jen

I read on one of the car seat companies website that the latest research shows that apparently kids dont have the trunk strength to support themselves in a car crash until they are about 18months old (regardless of weight) and all the new car seats coming out will be to 12kg instead of 8 to accomodate this So head control is supposed to be irrelevant because once agian it comes back to their trunk strength which is gained from walking and running around (being upright). IN amrecia they dont turn them around until 12months regardless of weight- apparently (learnt that one on the discovery channel)
Having said all that and knowing this when my daughter was born we turned hers around at 6 months because she hated facing backwards (would scream and scream) and she was getting to big and it was too hard to get a wriggly baby in out of the rearwards facing car seats. I just made sure I did it up extra tight!:)
