I'd be really careful just in case she did somehow break any little pieces off. Apple is quite hard for little ones - a real choking hazard.

Then again, sometimes I am a little bit too overprotective....;)

i cut the apple into 4 bits to cut the seeds out and i find tyler can hold them better then a hole apple,,, she loves it

I wouldn't - even though she hasn't got teeth, a piece could come off. Better safe than sorry;)
What you could do is wrap it in some muslin, or some shops sell these little mesh bags specifically for this purpose, so she can suck on it without any risk of little bits coming off.

There was a thread about this recently, I'm pretty sure someone said you can get these mesh bags at Coles or Big W, places like that. But like I said, muslin works as well.

I got my Tommee Tippee Fresh Food Feeder(the little mesh bag thingy) from Big W in the baby section for around $7,havent used it yet for obvious reasons but it looks really good.

The mesh bag sounds like a better idea, as even though they have no teeth, there's enough pressure in those little gums to 'bite' a piece off and choke on it.....Better to be safe than sorry....

I don't think my 5 mo could hold a whole apple for very long!!! He would be dropping it every few mins! Good Luck!

Try giving your buba a banana - it soft enough so they wont choke and they will have fun squishing it between their fingers!

You'd be surprised at what kids who have no teeth can bite...My ds didn't get his first tooth til he was 17mths old and he was eating steak for dinner with us at 12mths old. I think he was eating apple at about 12mths too, I was too scared to give it to him any earlier.

You could try slicing the apple into decent sized chunks/wedges, then partly cooking them to make them a bit softer for bub to eat.
