When I was pregnant with DD I had an allergic reation to some prawns. Luckily I didn't actually eat the prawns, I just peeled them for the rest of the family!! Anyway, I have eaten them since DD has been born with no reation. My question is - do you think this means my DD will be allergic to shellfish? She is almost 14 months and she eats fish, but so far I have not given her any shellfish.
At what age did your kids have their first prawn?

HiNot sure if this will help at all. If you think that there is a possibility that your daughter may have an allergy, get it checked out by your GP first and then an allergy specialist if necessary. They can do quite simple tests to determine whether or not she has an allergy. It is quite common for people to have a shellfish allergy, but still be able to eat fish.Shellfish is much higher in Iodine, which is the substance that causes the allergic reaction. I have this allergy, and the reaction I get to shellfish is life threatening. It is not pleasant, but relatively easy to avoid as long as you are careful about checking labels on food and avoiding any shellfish based products. The reason i plead with you to get it checked out is that I have quite vivid memories from my early childhood of having life threatening reactions to shellfish, before anyone actually bothered to do the correct allergy tests. I don't mean to scare you, but it never hurts to get these things checked out, for your own piece of mind.HTH
