View Full Version : Chubby bubby thighs and nappies...

I am using mainly cloth nappies, but are still finding that disposables are handy for going out places and night time (my bubs can have a lot of activity at night! )
I have been using Huggies as I have been told they are the best on the market (I did try Baby Love and kept getting little crystals all over baby's bottom) but my DD has somewhat chubby thighs (poor thing takes after her mother...) and so I find that they don't do up as well as they could because the part that is shaped to go around the tops of the thighs is actually only coming halfway up the leg. This means the top part of the nappy gets pulled at an angle and leaves gaps above the thighs IYKWIM. It's kind of hard to explain
Has anyone else found a brand of disposable nappy that is good quality and perhaps a little more chubby-thigh-friendly? Personally I think this is one of the main advantages of cloth over disposable, but sometimes the disposable does come in handy...

My DS has very chubby bubby thighs :) and I use Snugglers. I haven't had any problems.
I also use Huggies (tried lots of different brands, but these are the ones which leak the least and give the best "draw away" from the body when wet). Sounds like your bub might do better with a bigger size. Huggies have a lot of overlap with sizes and with my DS I usually use the smaller ones to make sure they are snugger (but he's never had the thigh issue).
PS When he was younger I used cloth ones a lot more, (only disposables for going out and night), but now I only need to change him a couple of times a day. I plan on going with the same combination when number 2 comes along.:)
I'm using the Woollies brand 'Select' and they are FANTASTIC! I found that they are exactly the same as Huggies. They are a lot cheaper (you get more too!). The only thing is they don't have cute animals on them but pffffft, who needs that!?! I have a boy too so it's great for the night times. I've have only had maybe 2 small leaks with Select, and had about 7 with Huggies.
And my boy has those chubby thighs too! He is going to be a biggen! :p
i had that problem with my little chubba so i moved up to the next size but they are huge on her and i have to be very careful how i do them up or she will leak with the first pee. i use babylove and snugglers and also the wollies brand, just whatever happens to be cheapest at the time.
Aldi nappies are really good and seem to be more generous around the legs. Give them a try if you are near an Aldi.

I have an extra chubby cherub whose thighs are so chunky that he started wearing Huggies Walkers when he was 5 months old:eek: !
He is starting to thin a little but is still chunky. I have found (just like Kerrie) that the Woolworths select ones are fantastic!! Just as great as Huggies though they don't have the elastic at the top back of the nappy which means I see a little plumbers crack from time to time. This has NEVER meant the nappy leaked though and I can tell you we have had some pretty nasty & juicy moments to test them out!!
They are cheaper than Huggies too.

LMAO! I forgot about his plumbers crack! He he he ;)
Have you tried some of the modern cloth nappies for night time? I use a pocket nappy and it lasts our heavy wetting 22mth old 12hrs overnight easily. I had the same problems with Huggies too...they left gaping holes around the thighs and I found at one stage they didn't absorb fast enough for our super wee-er. If you are interested in finding out more, let me know because I don't want to bombard you with info if you aren't :)

Thanks everyone for your help. I have heard quite a few positive comments about the Woolies Select brand, so have given them a go and they are a better fit for my bub's cute little chubby thighs (incidentally, why are chubby thighs so cute on babies, but not on grown ups  )
Have also used one of my new cloth nappies with a booster in it, which works well too. I have to admit I was doubtful about how well it would work for my little poo machine, but it was fine.
Thanks again everyone!
