Oh..... my...... it is freakin enormous. I thought it would be a little bigger than a tampon, but it looks like I may as well have been shoving a vegemite glass up there:eek:

Anyone have any trouble getting them in?? Im slightly concerned........

they do look big and scary but i never had a problem with feeling it. i fold mine before i insert it and since the first use there is no way i would go back to using tampons.

Is it okay to try before AF? Like practice? I know that is not a good idea with tampons. My AF prob wont be here for another 40 days :(

you can practise without af - thats why it is better than tampons. the cup just collects the fluid unlike tampons that suck it up and remove all your natural moisture - iykwim.

i practised in the shower as i found when the cup was wet it was easier to insert - and when removing a full cup during af it is easier to clean up if it spills a little

Not big compared to other things that come out of there!!! Plus the cups are pretty squishy, fold easily to insert and mould to your insides.

I think everyone who buys/sees a cup irl for the first time thinks exactly the same though!

Oh, and practicing before AF is commonly known as a "dry run" ;) Go for it

Thanks for the giggle! I saw one 'in the flesh' the other day and my mind boggled at the thought!!

I'm a cloth mama all the way:thumbsup:

OK, I gave it a go. Without TMI (although this prob is TMI) I folded it the way you are sposed to and put it in and it went in straight away without any discomfort or problems. I walked around for half an hour and didnt feel a thing! Amazing!!

It is amazing hey! I was a bit overwhelmed by the size of it when I got mine.

I have to agree with the shower being the best place for removing/inserting it. Into the shower, cup out and cleaned, wash as per usual, re-insert cup, turn off water and dry as per usual-with NO concerns about where you dry your self! :p

So dont you guys change it during the day like a tampon? I have a regular flow, quite heavy the first couple of days. Surely I would have to change it during the day? I cant imagine leaving it in all day.

Funkychicken
08-09-2007, 07:31
Yes, I do have to empty it in the day. I have a really heavy flow from about day 1 1/2 to day 3 and in this time I only need to empty it at the most twice each day. On the other days, I don't need to empty it except for in the morning and before I go to bed.

Sounds like you've got the hang of it
How long you can leave it in will depend on how heavy your flow is. In the first couple of days I have to change about every 3 hours, but in the last couple of days I could leave it in probably all day.
Once you've used it a bit you'll get to know your body a bit more and how often you'll need to change it.

Ahhh, yes, no more using dark towel during af!!

Shower is a good place to start. You soon work out the ease of doing it elsewhere though.

I was able to leave mine in all day. Inserted in the morning in the shower and removed at night in the shower. I guess I'm lucky coz I don't like my chances of having to change during the day at work etc..

So glad to hear it is going well. I wasn't overly surprised at the size of my cup - as Grem said - it is meant to stretch to accommodate a lot bigger stuff!! I like the way it forms a clean seal - much better than tampons for stuff like swimming and I used to find that tampons swelled up to a frightening size after a swim and they would get waterlogged and leak too.

I find that I empty it morning, afternoon and before bed for the first couple of days and that the first couple of nights I might have to get up at 3 or 4 am to empty, but I had to do that to change pads anyway and it is much more comfortable to sleep with.

Oh and whoever was worried - there is no such thing as TMI when talking about AF here! These ladies are a mine of helpful info.

Do you guys use the cup with pads for the first couple of days? Just incase it leaks? Or doesnt it leak? Only, when I use tampons I need to use pads for the first couple of days with them just incase, so wondering if the cup was the same

Hi there,

I did use pads for the first couple of days and night just in case but there wasn't any need to. I didn't leak at all. But if you feel better doing this, give it a go and you can reduce the pad use over a couple of cycles.

Erin, have a look through these threads and you'll find heaps of info on menstrual cups.
The idea is you use a reusable cup (usually silicone, sometimes latex) instead of tampons. You bring it out at the beginning of your period and when you finish, you pop it back in it's bag and away into the cupboard! No mess, no ongoing expenses, no extra rubbish!

I'm using my Lunette for about the third or fourth cycle now and I cannot believe I ever used tampons when something this good was available.

I use a liner for the first two days, but haven't had more than a touch of spotting through. It is absolutely my favourite thing in the world  .

Hi girls
Sorry this might be tmi for some!

I've just started using my new diva today. Maybe I'm a weirdo but I can feel mine a bit... a weird pinching feeling? I cut the stem back so that's improved things. Maybe I haven't put it in right but it seems to be doing the job so to speak! I've always been aware when I've used tampons that there's something there, so maybe it's just me lol.
Any advice? I feel a bit stoopid asking :o

No stupid questions; if you don't ask you never know :)

Some women can feel it, others can't - or at least don't really notice it after awhile.

My suggestion would be to try different positions to insert it, make sure you twist the cup once you have it in to make sure it's suctioned in properly, and do a few kegels to move it around.

I would assume that after a few cycles you'll soon get used to it. I guess so long as it's not uncomfortable, and that it's doing the job, then there's not much else you can do!

Me too! I love my cup and tell everyone who I think might be even remotely interested in it. At first, I took a few goes and ended up chopping off most of the stem (I have a Lunette) and then rounded the edges of the tiny bit that was left with some nail scissors. I had an internal lateral tear with DD and find that if the stem is north-south facing (IYKWIM) it digs in a bit, but if it is east-west, I don't feel a thing. Once it is in, I just twist it one way, then the other and that is usually all I need to do. I've been extremely vigilant about doing kegels too and I've found that the more of them I do, the better the fit and comfort I have. Really wish I'd had one before I had DD!!!

how easy is it to clean? I haven't ever seen one but from what I am imagining you take it out, tip out the flow and wash it in the sink. Is this right?? And in your opinion is one brand more comfy than another??

Very easy to clean. Just rinse then put back in. If you can't rinse it out (say you're in public toilets), then wiping it out with some toilet paper does the job. A good idea is to have a bottle of water with you so you can rinse it out anywhere :)

Once brand can be more comfy than the other, although they're all very similar.

I'll pm you Obsidian's site, where she has comparisons of all of them :)

How do you wash/sterilize them between cycles?

How do you wash/sterilize them between cycles?

Some people just wash them with hot soapy water, others fully sterilize in boiling water for 5 minutes.

Most of the cups actually have a money back guarantee:thumbsup:
It does take a few cycles sometimes, to work out how to insert and take it out properly, but pretty soon you become a pro :)
Have you looked at cloth pads? I tend to be a pad girl and use the cup for when I play netball or go swimming.

Obsidian has a few places where you can buy them from, all reputable.
I have a MooncupUK, but if I was going to buy again my first choice would be for the Lunette. I've only ever heard rave reviews about them

I bought mine directly from the company in Finland.
It's called Kuukuppi. If you google this, you should find the site. If you have any problems, just PM me and I'll send you a link.

You can also look at this (http://www.bubhub.com.au/shopsclothpads.php) part of the BH directory for more information.
