I wonder if anyone has experienced this too? I am 8 weeks into my 2nd pregnancy. First was textbook, but this feels different. Went to Obst. who sent me for a scan revealing a baby at only 6 weeks and a small sac and large yolk. Told me 90% sure this would not have a good outcome and to return in 2 weeks for further scanning. My husband and I are shell-shocked. My preggie symptoms have been decreasing for the last week though there is a good heartbeat of 120bpm on the scan, I am now in a daze trying to work out what will happen. Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi elaine,
I don't want to get your hopes up, but my sister had the exact same thing and she is now 16weeks pregnant and doing well.
I did alot of research about this for my sister and the research shows that if a heartbeat is seen at 6weeks, you have an 85% chance of a healthy pregnancy.
It also said that what you are describing could be caused by a twin pregnancy where one twin did not develope, making the surviving twin smaller with a large yolk sac.
I don't know how true this is though.
My sister also had some bleeding early on but is going strong now.
I hope this is the case for you. I wish you the best of luck.
My thoughts are with you and hope your pregnancy continues without any problems. :) :)

I have experienced a large sac up to 9 mm...now thats large. Dr. told me I would miscarry in 4 weeks...I saw him for an ultrasound at 8 weeks....I did all sorts of research and everything I read was not on my babys best insterest. I am currently 18 1/2 weeks and I have had one scan already...it looked good. I have another one in a few weeks to check the baby all over. I am here if you need someone to talk too...prayer got me through. I was a wreak at first..this is my 4th child. take care! Stacy

To keep an update - I found out at 10 weeks that I had miscarried at about 8.5 weeks. I knew something was wrong when I felt nausea for about 2 days straight as well as a strong headache and mild stomach cramps. The scan confirmed the worst and the Obst performed a curette later the same day. So now trying to move on and try again. Many thanks for all preyers and advice - all greatly appreciated.

HI there
I am new to this forum...I am approx 7 weeks pg, with #5, an unplanned pg but none the less wanted...I found out today that the fetus is still not visable and the yolk sac is "a bit larger than we would like" quote from doc!
My hcg levels have been rising nicely..and I am wondering what the cahnces of having a happy outcome from all this is?
My husband is away (deployed in europe) and the only way I got pg is that he came home on emergency leave for my surgery (thyroidectomy) in march...a couple of weeks after he left I discovered I was pg!! So I have no-one to help me through this...I told him today there was a possibilty of me losing the 'baby' and he cried...which made it worse for me as I have been crying all day on and off.
If there are any words of wisdom I would really appreciate it :)
thanks
Julie :)
Julie,
My heart goes out to you. I have fingers crossed.
7 weeks into my DD pregnancy they could find a hb, all the bits they were looking for but I had v. heavy bleeding plus I had really dodgy hcg levels.
What saved my DD I think was to listen to my body. I change a couple of things I ate (read they were uterine irritants & also felt ikky after eating them) and also stayed in bed. Drs said normal activity was fine, but as soon as I got out of bed it all got worse...so I stopped in bed for 5 weeks! With a family to look after alone no doubt this is a luxury you can't afford, but the important thing I think is to listen toyour body - it will tell you what it needs.
Hindsight suggests I miscarried a twin and that showed similiar to what someone else suggested.
Wishing you all the best and big *hugs* durign this difficult time.

i am 8weeks and 3 days with my 6th child and have had a rocky start.
i had a scan a couple of days ago and everything is fine, but i could see a round blob under the baby which they said is the yolk sac. can u see the yolk sac when you have a scan as i couldnt with any of my boys. i have also bled 3 times but only a littlebit is this normal. when i had my 5 boys i had no problems and with this one i have had problems from the start. i would be greatfull for any sugestions.

mumof6boys,
I could see the yolk sac when I had scan of DD.
I also bled with both pgs. first I had dd and no probs there, second I M/C, however the bleeding didn't actually cause the M/C. I bled whilst pg, I'd say on a few occasions light to medium bleed. Sometimes this happens and most of the time Drs don't know why exactly. Remember though, most women will continue on with a successful pregnancy...so I know its hard but try not to worry too much. If you start getting clots or cramps then get checked out!
Good luck and I hope you have a fantastic pregnancy!
