Hi,
Im 38 weeks pregnant and had my 1st internal exam yesterday and my obstertician told me i was about 1/2 centimetre dilated. which shocked me but the question i wanted to ask was does this mean that i will continue to dilate therfor maybe have my bundle of joy sooner :) or does it just stop sometimes? does anyone have any pointers for me????? thanks

It does sound like your bubba is on the way. Everyone is very different I was 1cm dilated and my son was born 3 hours later. It is the mostly wonderful experience. All the best

I was 1 cm at 36 weeks with number 4. he was 3 weeks over due. I was 1 cm for 9 weeks before I was induced.

But everyone is different, but either way you are nearly there.

Hi, my experience is that when i first went into hospital and had an examination i was 1 - 2cm after 3days of labour. The action really started after my waters broke, i had read that it is normal to be pysically sick when you are in labour. However by the fourth time of being pysically sick it was clear that it wasn't my body evacuating my stomach, but it was actually what my body did everytime i dilated. The pysical sickness was not what you would normally experience, it was a whole body experience i went with what my body needed to do and never fought it. When i was fully dilated and able to push, the being sick went away.

That was my experience and i had never read or heard of that happening to anyone else, so all i can say that it could happen everyone's body reacts differently and if it does happen to you try not to fight it and don't be scared of it, your body is doing its job in helping the baby be born.

Before labour started i had false labour for a week and a half i went into hospital and had an internal examanation and i was not dilated at all and my cervix had not thinned. For me everything happened during labour. Alissa-maree was born a few hours before her due date.
