I was thinking about trying MJ on some egg, and i was just wondering how an allergy would present itself. Is it a rash, swelling??? Neither DH or I have any allergies at all, so we dont know what to expect.

Thankyou muchly

Orlando was tested and showed an allergy to egg and some other things too.

The way I knew was he already had a little bit of eczema (and the CHN referred us to an allergy clinic at RPA)

But before we got him tested I tried him on some egg custard and he threw it up straight away,

Look out for a rash and vomiting, she would have to be highly allergic to have an anaphalactic reaction (as its rare in egg allergies especially if you just try some custard first )

Hope this helps, someone else will have more info surely :)

My CHN advised to test a bit of raw egg white on the inside of bub's arm, wait an hour or so and see if there is a rash or swelling.

Much easier than getting a reaction from actually eating it. I did that with both my kids and neither showed a reaction on the arm or had any further problems with eggs.

Hi,

Not sure if this adds any help. Sophia is 16 months. At 12 months, I made a cake (from scratch) and thought it would be nice for her to lick the spoon, I didn't even think about egg! (Previous to this I had put egg yolk into her food, without any reaction). Well as it turned out, not even a minute, and she didn't even take a big lick, and her bottom lip swelled, and then hive bumps started to appear from her chin, mouth, cheeks upwards......didn't know what we were looking at...so we called 000 for an ambulance....they established that she had an allergic reaction, and asked us to monitor her breathing (to ensure no blockage due to swellingof her throat) and not to give her anything to drink, whilst we waited for the ambo's.

Over a period of an hour the hives reached their peak, and then started to dissipate. She was kept in emergency for atleast 4 hours, so they could monitor her breathing. She was ok.

Since then we have taken her to the immunology clinic at Sydney Childrens' and have established she is allergic to raw egg (but we don't even give it to her cooked anymore), nuts, soya, and shellfish. So she will need to be retested at 18 months to establish how severe the allergies are.

Our strategy is basically stay away from the foods she is allergic to; make our own food; when out, stick to basic food; and ensure we ask if the key ingredients are in the food or not when we're out or over the counter.

Hope that helps.

My DS1 was allergic to wheat and eggs and is still allergic to nuts. This was diagnosed by a skin prick test.

His egg allergy presented itself as a redness/hives around the mouth. He was occasionally slightly wheezy and alway scratched under his chin/throat. He had to have anti-histimine (Zyrtec) if he had a reaction.

But in answer to your question it could present in a number of ways hives, swelling, redness, wheezing, increase in ezcema etc. I think each childs reaction is quite individual.

My dd had obvious allergy to dairy and peanuts so I went to see and allergist who did a skin prick test and also says he is allergic to eggs and raw potato (never heard of that one before). He was always wheezy and taking away all dairy helped this but think he may also have slight asthma (seeing spec next month about this) so still has wheeze most of the time anyway.

Before been diagonosed with the egg allergy I had given him scrambled eggs and an omlete. He also has biscuits, cakes etc with no problem. He has not had a reaction but now I am too worried to give any egg!!!
