Hey girls,
I am hoping to get some idea's for wording on the invites.
I think it would be nice for people to "dress up" for the wedding. So sort of cocktail dressing. I need some help and advise on what to put on the invites...
And would like to hear what other people did for their wedding!
Thanks heaps! :hugs:

Hi we went to a wedding at the start of the year and at the bottom of the invite before the RSVP was
Dress: Casual (no ties)
So i guess you could put
Dress: Cocktail
Thats my idea anyway good luck

Another way of saying cocktail dress is "After 5" which basically means the same thing.

Agree with the others, cocktail or after 5 we have had that on a few invites we have got i guess cocktail is easier though i had to as what after 5 was haha

Haha, yeah i was think i wouldnt have known what after 5 was!
I think ill go with cocktail.
Or if anyone knows of a way to make a poem/rhyme that i could use to let people know how to dress??
How about 'elegant' or 'suave' or 'sophosticated'?
I can't remember what we had now - but it was something along those lines. I love 'Lounge Suit' as well I must admit - we might have had that now I come to think of it....

When my soon to be step brother and his wife got married last year they had at the botto if the invites : Guys: Lounge Suits and Girls: Party Dresses. If you want people really dressed up though I would certainly go with the wording Cocktail over after 5. We put smart casual on our invites. Best of luck with the planning.:) Cheers Deb x

black tie means dressy doesn't it?

themumbug - Yep "Black Tie" is formal... men wear tuxedos and ladies wear long dress or cocktail dress
On our invites we had "Black Tie Invited" - Which means the guys dont have to wear a tux but still means formal.. so a dark suit and tie, but any tie colour is fine. And ladies wear a long dress or cocktail dress
Other ideas are:
Creative Black Tie - He wears a tux and not necessarily a tie, she wears a long or short dress
Cocktail Attire - Means short, elegant dress for her and dark suits for the men.

Found this on a wedding site, hope it helps or gives you a few ideas anyway.
The time is 10.30am for you to be there
But now is the question of what to wear
Summery styles to flow in the breeze
Not over the top, just semi-formal please
But no denim is what we do ask
Now that's not to difficult a task
(They were having a beach ceremony with a cocktail party to follow)

We had 'lounge suit' as our dress code.
A few of the country folk thought it said 'lounge suite' and wondered what the hell that was meant to mean!
Luckily they had kinfolk who lived in 'the big smoke' to help them dress for the day.

my brother had a very formal wedding, it was strictly formal wear..
but i think "black tie" would be the way to go, "after 5" well you dont want someone turning up looking like they are going clubbing lol

it means no holes in your fishnets Punkbaby!!:D
After 5 must be an older expression - cos I understand it!;) I reckon most young males these days wouldn't know what lounge suit was - might think its those velour trakkies chicks wear!!

I think you'll find black tie means a proper dinner suit
(I should read all posts before posting!!)

 Hey miamama. We also put smart casual on our invites.Getting married on the same day, chocolate mud cake with white icing, same dress code.Great minds think alike!!
I wanted a certain standard of dress for our wedding, and in our invites we had:
Dress: After Five evening wear
Be prepared for phone calls from people wanting clarification if you put a 'dress code'.
hi,Dress code "After 5" , "Evening Wear", "Semi Formal".We went to a Black Tie Wedding Reception and seemed that people all wore suits with a tie and evening dresses.

We went to a wedding once that had SUMMER FORMAL as the dress code. They basically wanted us dressed up and elegant but not over the top!
