Hi Everyone,

i need some help. I am currently pregnant and want to wash and put away all of the lovely baby clothes and nappies that I have but don't know what to wash them in.

I have a front load washing machine that is a 7kg LG. I don't want to use nappy san as it is bleach based and will cut down the life of my nappies. Mum suggested Lux flakes but you can't use them in a front loader apparently. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks Stacy

Hi there

You could try using Omo Sensitive, or somethign along those lines?

I actually handwashed all my baby things at first, using Lux flakes. :)

the best product EVER for washing baby stuff is AMOLIN - it is in a blue bottle (near the liquids) and smells DEVINE!!!! much better than lux flakes (which have to be dissolved) - its only about $3-$4 a bottle... mmmmm .. smells pretty ..

- I'm pretty sure it says on the bottle that it is for both top and front loaders.. and it is designed for sensitive skins and babies :D

how exciting!! I loved hanging the little clothes on the line before bubs came :) enjoy!!!

You can only really use front loader powder for front loader machines, as far as I know anyway. I always use Omomatic, and have never had a worry. I have never been able to find a sensitive formula or anything like that for a frontloader. I just wouldn't use any of the cheap brands. You could always use half the amount of powder recommended also.:)

Maybe try OMO Sensitive - Haven't used this myself as I use an Amway product called SA8 but have heard it is good for sensitive skin types... and I am sure a big brand like that would make it for use in front loaders...

Otherwise maybe try Amolin (sp??) but that is a liquid base product...

Wow. what quick replies. Thank you all so much for your help and expertise. I will look into the Amolin. Jsut want to make use I use something gentle for the first wash. Don't want to have to re-wash everything if baby has a reaction to my regualr powder.

Thanks Again.

Hi Stacy,

I use Earth Choice for all my laundry, it's free of all the nasty chemicals and washes everything great. It's in all the supermarkets and only costs $2 for a 1lt bottle.

I suggest only washing a few clothes though, only wash those that you intend to use in the first few weeks. You may find some of them never get worn, in which case you can give them away as pressies later, or if they still have tags keep them in case you can return them. Target, Kmart etc don't ask for receipts if you have the tag with it. Just tell them it was a gift and you got 2 of them...

I'm washing them as I want to use them, so all the bigger stuff is still unwashed with tags.

There is also another liquid called Purity. It is basically the same as amolin but a couple of dollars cheaper, it's usually on the shelf right next to the amolin, well in woolies it is. I used that for DS clothes to begin with.
I use the cheapest liquid I can get now, which is usually the home brand one at woolies, and have used that on DD's clothes since she was born without a problem...it's doesn't affect DH's skin either and he reacts to almost every kind of washing powder/liquid I have tried.

When I was washing the new baby clothes I just put them thru on a warm water cycle without any kind of powder/liquid.

I just used our ordinary powder - OMOmatic - using less than the recommended amount and with an extra rinse to make sure all the detergent residue was washed out. I figured why create extra work for myself? If bub did have a reaction to the washing powder, I could then switch to something more sensitive but otherwise although I do sort our clothes, I sometimes throw them all in together.
