View Full Version : Biting
My 6 1/2 month old daughter has decided to start biting me since yesterday everytime I feed her. She has her two bottom teeth. I have scolded her which always worked with my other children - but not with her. At first it was towards the end of a feed and I gave her a bottle of formula last night, which she usually refuses, but took last night. By this afternoon - as soon as I put her on she bit me, so has ended up having 2 bottles with relish - very unusual for her. I am on antibiotics at the moment and wonder whether it has affected the taste or if she is just teething. I dont know what to do - my boobs are quite full at the moment.
This worked for me....
whenever Andrew would bite, I would take him off and put him down on the floor. Wait a few seconds and then pick him up and reattach. If he bit again, I'd repeat. It really only took a few go's at that before he got the gist of it, and we haven't had a problem since, and he now has 4 teeth.
Its a very simple association, and he knew exactly what the consequences were for biting - no boobie! He's a fast learner my boy :)
Thanks for that suggestion Nicole. I will try and let you know how I go.
Hi JJ7
I have heard that, when a baby is sucking properly, their tongue should be out across their tetth and their bottom lip. (my DDs didn't have their teeth before they weaned, so its only hearsay) The theory is that they must stop sucking just before they bite you. If you watch for this, you can be pre-emptive about taking her off (as Nicole has said above).
Hope this helps.
