View Full Version : What happens at a fertility specialist?

I was a single Mum for 12 years when I met my wonderful husband. I had decided that I didn't want any more kids and he accepted this. But after awhile I changed my mind. I am 37 and my husband is 47 so time really is ticking away for us.
We have been trying for over a year now with no luck. My periods are regular; my BBT chart shows a regular rise in temp each month, and I have had positive ovulation tests. I know we should have seen a specialist before now, but each month we think "This is it!!"

Anyway I just wanted to know what will happen to us both at a fertility specialist. What should we take? How long does it take to get a result on sperm viability as I presume that is the first test done as it is the quickest and simplest test? What will they do to me???

Deep down, I don't think it is going to happen and part of me thinks that if it hasn't happened by now, God doesn't want it to happen. I have a 16yo daughter so have had the experience but my husband has no children and he would be such a wonderful father. It would be sad if he never had the chance to be a Dad.:crying:

Thanks and good luck to everyone else TTC:fingerscrossed:

hi freedee,

When I went to my fs the first thing he did was a lap and dye to check everything out, that plus checked DP's sperm count. Everything came back perfect so as we had already been trying for a year with no luck he got me onto clomid and I fell pregnant first round with DD.
Also he did say that quite often a lap and dye is helpful to achieve pregnancy as its like a flush out of everything and he had quite a few fall pregnant after with no other assistance.

I also wanted to give my partner a child and I was 42 when I first visited the fs.

By the way, my partners loves being a father so much we are trying for one more

I wish all the best of luck and hope you get your dream:babydust2:
