View Full Version : Peppermint?
I was just told by someone that you should eat peppermint while breastfeeding as it.. (and I quote) "will nuturlise your breast milk and help not give your baby wind"
Thoughts?
Truth to it?
Wow i have never hear that before, its a bit late now thanks Nikki :p
No, I've never heard that advice either. Maybe I'll give it a go.
Make sure you check on it before you give it a go! I don't know if it's true or possibly dangerous. *shrugs* :)
I don't want to be responsible for unsettled babies!!!!

i have heard that one and did use to suck on peppermints for awhile... i think they did what they are claimed to do... i never had problems with wind with coby...
i googled peppermint + breastfeeding and came up with this:
What is it? Peppermint is an herbal medicine used to treat lung problems, nausea (upset stomach), gas, headache, gastritis, enteritis, and irritable bowel disease. It is also used on the skin for rheumatic complaints (sore aching joints), severe itching, and skin rash.
Peppermint oil and menthol should be avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding due to insufficient information and potential for toxicity.
but peppermint flavoured lollies and mints are aok... i think anyway... i never had problems

Maybe the person was confusing the use of Peppermint Tea for wind in adults with using it while Breastfeeding. I havn't read anything regarding its usefulness in breastfeeding. With the lollies though, increasing your refined sugar intake is reported to increase wind or colic in babies.
