OK for the past few days I have been really itchy. And not just my belly in a stretching kind of way, but the backs of my hands, palms, in between fingers and toes, bottom of feet, legs, arms, back, head etc. And once I start to scratch it is very hard to stop. I have some scratches on my hands now from it.

How bad should it be before I call someone?? It isn't unbearable but it is constantly there IYKWIM.

Could it just be my skin drying out??

Any info would be great.
Thanks
Jude

There is a skin condition that some pregnant women get but I forget what it's called.
I'd be going and getting checked out.

I think I have heard this before aswell. Ask your obstetrician, GP or ring health direct.

Hey Jude,

It is probably best to get checked out, there are three things in pregnancy that can make you itch one is a more complicated than the others it is called Obstetric Cholestasis its when your liver releases bile salts into your body..The other would be dry skin and the other is a condition called PUPPP's but isn't serious annoying more than anything.

I had cholestasis when i was preg with dd and i was sooooooo itchy.

The thing that has me more worried is that i smothered myself with moisturiser last night and it did nothing! And I have no rash whatsoever, haven't changed my diet, activities, laundry powder anything at all.

Let's hope it is just the change in weather or something.

I had something like this during my first pregnancy. My hands and feet were constantly itchy....Anyway I went to my OB who did some blood tests, as from memory it is called billyroben?? (spelling) something to do with the liver.

ANYWAY.... I had the blood test in the AM left the OBS office 15 mins later I had a lady hit from behind in the car. I went into labour, my waters broke and then bub was born......

Not sure if I had this billyroben thing though, didn't bother asking after bub was born.

Go get checked out hun i have Obstetric Cholestasis its detected with a blood test and best to get looked at if it is that! Usually it shows up around now in most cases, altho i have had mine since i was 18 weeks. Dont be too concerned if you have it though if they know that you have it then they just monitor you closely and usually bring you on about 37 weeks as well.

Good luck and i hope that its just something simple but sounds very similiar to what i have, mine basically burns its horrible, i found that either pintesol or detol seemed to ease it a little but it didnt go away :(

Yep should mention its your liver not getting rid of the bile properly basically though towards the end of your pregnancy it can affect your placenta so they like you to go in earlier, but they will monitor you really close so please dont stress get checked out :D and mention it to your gp as some forget to check for it as i had it with dd2 and they didnt even pic it up :(

my doc said as its from my liver a creme wont help have been taking dandeloin tablets (sp??) apparently that helps flush your liver and have made sure that i dont eat anything too fatty as this can cause it to not get rid of the bile etc as well i will have to ask my doc again about a creme i just usually put a little of dds exceme creme to take the redness out but doesnt really help

My hubby kicks me at night and growls at me for itching mind you i am snoring when i do it LOL
