View Full Version : Bath for a big baby
Any suggestions to my baby-bath issue would be welcome. My 11 week old is already too big for a regular baby-bath as he's about 7.5kg. We bought a large plastic box to put in the bath to wash him but it's murder on your back. Our bath isn't big enough for one of us to get in with him and I don't have a suitable laundry sink. He can't sit up on his own yet either so we can't put him in the bath on his own (and hold him). Any suggestions? Thanks :)

can you put the box that you bought on a bench/table maybe?
sorry cant think of anything else
my ds is over 7kg too and I still have to bath him in the baby bath 'cause our bath is horrible for my back too. I don't have any ideas other than that I put a little less water in the baby bath now so that he doesn't splash it all over the place - it still gets all over the place but not as bad!! Sometimes he goes in the shower too with one of us. I guess once they can sit up they will be able to sit in the baby bath but that is still some way off.
Good luck, let me know if you discover a solution.

i use to do DD (also was a big bub) in her bath either on the bench ( if DP was home to help me lift it) or i would put it on the floor in the bath room and just sit next to it

u could get one of those cloth support stands from babies galore and put it straight in the normal bath, there would be enough room for you to be in there too, n if u were sitting with him the whole time it would be perfectly safe :)

i think the cloth support stands are called bath eze? can't remember, but bigger bubs fit on them, there not contrictive like the plastic ones, my friend used it for her boy right up to 9mths.

can you get yourself one of those tubs that arent as deep to put on the table or bench? I haveone that i used for bubs it was about 1.5 metres long and 70cms wide but about 30 deep so it wasnt overly huge...did make a mess when bubs kicked but it was roomier than the babybaths

Have you tried taking your DS into the shower with you? I know people who do this. I don't personally because my DS prefers to sit in the bath but some babies love the water running on them. Might be worth trying and see how he reacts.

Have you thought of one of those outside drink coolers on the table?? its like a big oval bucket but they look nice lol.. im not sure, i was going to suffest one of those baby bath beds, but it wouldnt solve the problem of bending over and hurting your back, hmm.. when my son was in between a baby bath and normal bath i use to bath him in the kitchen and laundry sink lol..
I had the same problem, so I started bathing her in the laundry sink. ;)

Any reason you can't just lay him in the regular bath on his own? Thats what I did :)

I bought one of those plastic step stools that kids can use as step ups for the bathroom. It enabled me to sit facing the bath with good reach into the bathtub to support DS. Saved my knees and wasn't too bad on my back.

try a lay back baby bath seat in the big bath?
I have a bad back and it was fine with this as you arnt actually leaning way over holding their weight as well, just a hand on them for safety. Much easier on the back imo.
