DD is almost 4 months old, and for the last 2 weeks we've had real problems settling her for bed.

she has a small amount of formula at 8pm which DP gives her. she then gets into her grobag and i BF her with her usually falling asleep at the boob. i then put her down (she semi-awakens when i do this) in the cot in our room. 40 min later (which i know is her current sleep cycle) she wakes up screaming. it can take up to 1/2 hour to settle her again, and then she can do it again taking even longer to resettle. i don't expect miracles, but i do wonder if this is caused from teething (she's been chewing everything in sight lately and drooling like crazy)? we have had a few nights with next to no sleep because of her being unsettled and clingy... anyone else had this??

hi there
you must be tired. my little boy seems to do the same thing. I have been finding leaving the radio on fuzz in his room seems to resettle him when he wakes after 45 minutes. He still cries but not to the point where he is awake and needs me to resettle him, he just sort of whines then settles himself again. Without the fuzz there is no hope of him sleeping past 45 minutes. I figure I will wean him off the fuzz later but for now, he needs his sleep and so do I!!
Good luck, I hope something works. It could also be their age, most things pass don't they, then the next thing starts which for these bubs I guess will be teething.

alice, i see our bubs were born on the same day! :)

i wouldn't be surprised if it has to do with their age. lily day naps for only 40min now (sometimes even less) taking almost 45min to resettle her, and that seems to have coincided with the trouble settling her at night.

hopefully things improve for us soon. :fingerscrossed:

Its like they forget how to sleep and need to learn all over again..

Hope the info helps :)

Hi miss Ani how are you!!

my bub was clingy right from birth. the first 2 weeks i was up all night dozing in a chair because if i removed him from my nipple he screamed. it was horrendous. i was dreading nights, then the breast feeding hotline suggested i try co sleeping with him and we have been doing it ever since. he never transfered ever, if he fell asleep on boobie, i would put him down and 10 mins later (if i was lucky!!) he would wake up again. now i feed him to sleep in our bed and gently get up or put him in my wrap and he sleeps beautifully in that when all else fails. (sometimes he doesn't settle at my breast)

good luck!! i just replied becaue you said she was a little clingy right now and you d been up a lot some nights recently. thats how i was for the first few weeks til i surrendered to what he so obviously wanted which was to be close to me as much as possible.

it might be the case that your bub isnt sure whats going on.....

i saw a video on settling at mothers group the other day, techniques etc

maybe you need to put her in her gro bag b4 formula and bf, to signify bed bed bed at this time....?

maybe she's getting a fright at where she is when she wakes up? is she falling asleep same place she wakes?

the video was from the dark ages but it kind of made sense

i have an 8 week old bub so dont ask me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

good luck though ! xx
