View Full Version : Do I really need a no--underwire bra at 8 weeks???

Hi,
I'm about 7-8 weeks along, and am busting out of my bras. I went to Myer (Brisbane city) to get some news ones, and as soon as the lady heard I was pregnant, she told me that I had to stop wearing underwired bras.
I'm OK with that, except for all the lacey underwire-free bras. I *hate* my bra being in any way visible through my top (either from lacey lumps or being a white sports bra that you can see through a white blouse).
Do I really, really, have to stick to no underwires? Or can I just get some underwired bras in my new size that won't show through all my shirts.
Thanks ...

You want to keep em perky as long as u can, so i'd be sticking with the underwire. I wore them the whole way thru - no one ever told me any different. I didn't sart wearing maternity bras till i startd feeding.

I wore underwire throughout my pregnancies.....still do, and I'm breast feeding. As long as they're not too tight.....

Had this debate in another thread - called liar sales women in the recommendation section
Basically according to my midwife underwire causes no issues at all - and was told to wear what ever bra i wanted to, other people had different advice, but don't think underwire makes any difference - it's a ploy to get your money!!!! Buy much bigger bras cause your boobs will grow lots more!!!!

When i was pregnant i was told by a sales women at Myer in Melbourne that its because as your rib cage comes out it will be more uncomfortable.
If i were you buy cheap bras as you may go up 2 cup size. Thats what the norm is apparantley.
I did but then again i had twins so my tummy was alot bigger than normal
I wore wires the whole way through with no probs. Only when you start b-Feeding do you need to have soft maternity ones. Even then, after a while I found normal wire bras that could easily be used while nursing, and never had any problems with comfort or supply etc.
PP is correct- your boobs will get much bigger than seems possible...:p

I heard this too. I was told that it could cause blockage of the milk duct. I decided if I got mastitis before I had a baby and my milk came in I could probably deal with it. So I wore underwires for most of my pregnancy.
I actually wore my normal bras for quite a while with a bra extender. My cup size didn't increase too much initially but my back broadened (along with my butt). Then I bought comfy, cheap but nice underwired bras in bigger cup sizes, again using extender and only caved in to maternity when my belly got so big and high that the underwires started cutting in (about 8 months). By then I didn't care so much about the 3 size bigger E cups I had to order in.
Personally, I'd find another shop, buy what's on special that's comfortable and enjoy the support. I'm dying to wear an underwire again, make the most of that increased bust and cleavage now, its one of the perks of pregnancy.

Thanks for the replies ...
I've already gone up one cup size, so wearing my normal bras isn't really an option. :(
I went to the DFO outlets on Sat, and bought some cheap bras. The lady in the shop also said that I shouldn't wear underwires, as they can cause non-cancerous lumps. !!
She also mentioned, but said that she shouldn't tell me this ... that I could just buy some regular bras and take the underwires out. There were some on special for $10, so that's what I've done. I bought a couple of others, and I'll see how I go for now with the underwires in until I see the OB in March and see what she says.
Thanks all!

its funny cause the first thing that grew were my boobs, im 16 weeks now and have to get maternity bras cause all the normal ones fit weird on me and they r the same price anyways!!!! the good thing bout maternity bras is the backs are bigger and they have more of the latch thingys so I think they are more worth than buying lots of non maternity ones...
as sonn as i fel pg i couldnt wear underwires because they use to hurt SO SO SO much and they were VERY good bras.... O well gettin $10 ones and takin the wire out sounds llike a good idea
I went up two sizes by eight weeks and I am now 15 weeks and need a trip back to the bra shop because I am bursting out of the new ones.
I love that idea of taking the underwire out! thanks for the tip!
