View Full Version : Who wants to go to the zoo?
Hi there,
Nickster and I were talking and she suggested a zoo trip for the kids.
Anyone interested? I was thinking Alma Park Zoo as it is probably a bit closer for some of the southerners? Any other suggestions?:)
I would love to go to the zoo, zoo, zoo, how about you? LOL
Sounds great although i think Alma park is pretty exxy now:rolleyes:
Where is there that's not exy these days, but also has enough animals to make it feel worthwhile? I don't know many place around besides the Sunny Coast so any suggestions would be loved!:) :D
Yeah i would love to come to sounds like it would be fun.
Yeah I know:rolleyes: I dont know anywhere else though...I am happy to go there:D
If there is a group going then it could be worth looking at whether they do group discounts.
If it is a day I am not working then I will come - my girls LOVE a zoo!
http://www.almaparkzoo.com.au/index2.html
Adults $26:eek:
Kids $17
Under 2 is free:D
$17 for a child over 2??
ops, I meant 3:o...but still....
I just did a comparison with Australia Zoo - that is $38 for and adult and $26 for a child over three
They getcha dont they? Guess they've got to make a living somehow:o Walkabout creek is only $2:D

We took Ry to Alma Park about 3 months ago. Apart from being exy (but you're right HL, everything seems to be these days), not many animals were 'pattable'. The kids can't touch most of the animals in the petting zoo these days (friendship farm I think it is) except for 2 cranky old sheep and a calf....everything else is off limits. The wallabies were so well fed that they slept through our visit:mad:
I was a bit disappointed but it's still probably the best one around.
The gardens are beautiful and a picnic lunch would be perfect.
The gardens are beautiful and a picnic lunch would be perfect.
LOL, well if you put it that way...the botanical gardens are beautiful.....and they're FREE!!LOL:D
Well you guys can go to the gardens, but I'm going to the zoo.;)
I don't really care for him touching the animals, as long as he can see some monkeys and interesting things. To be honest I hate to encourage him to touch as we have so much bloody wildlife here I'd hate for him to go up to something here and have his arm chewed off.
I've just found he has a real interest in different types of animals and is always looking at pictures etc.
Alma Park Zoo sounds good to me.:)
LOL, ok ok , I'll go to the Zoo with you! Count me in!:D
Sounds like a grooooovy idea :) We showed Andrew some puppies and kittens at the pet store today and he oohed a bit....maybe he would like to go to the zoo? I would anyway...I love monkeys :D
Yay Nicole's coming too! Can't wait to meet your little man.:)
So when is this happening?
Yeah when?? Im good to go:D
I realise that I am not the centre of the universe ( LOL) but Thursdays and Fridays are best for me - and Fridays are the best days.
I checked out the website and they do group discounts for 20 more more paying guests - which we should be able to achieve pretty easily.
Whichever day, doesn't matter much to moi. But if anyone could take pity on us and give us a lift to wherever we go, we'd be much appreciative :)
I've been reading too many screens...is it still Alma Park? I haven't been there for aaaaages....
OK well, seeing as draught isnt the centre of the universe, then I must be,,,,lets see....got playgroup on tuesdays and thursdays, school swimming on mondays and thursdays, gym monday wednesdays and fridays, school reading tuesdays, school maths frids, school art wednesdays.......
Seriously any day is good:rolleyes: so lets make it a Thursday? Payday:D
good lord Katie you are one BUSY chickadee!
How about the weekend hay Katie
LOL and lovin' it:D Oh, I forgot fruit and vege co-op on Fridays.....lets make it a Thursday
Oh, thats what I just said:rolleyes: ......Thursday, yeah...
Limmy, weekends good for me, except saturday morning when I teach and then Tobys soccer, and all day Sunday when I am at church:p
LOL, HL, when would you like to go?:o I'm in a silly mood tonight, forgive me?:o
I'm really not trying to be annoying, but I am trying to reach 3000 posts :p
Well I don't mind at all, I would prefer a week day though.
It was Nickster's idea and I think she works Thursday evenings (maybe?), so Friday might be better for her? Ok I don't really know, but when she's back she could fill us in.:)

Hey here I am!:)
I've been slacking off lately! Spending time doing lots of baking - fruitcake, date scones, mmmm, it's amazing how much you can actually get done when you're not sitting on "the hub"!!;) :D
I only work a Thursday night once in a blue moon, so Thurs or Fri suits me too.
If Alma Park Zoo doesn't suit, we can always go to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary or Fleays - both on the Gold Coast. I don't know too much about either one, though! :o

Zoo sounds good! What thursday do you think you will go? i couldnt see a date yet? any time decided?
sorry to ask such detailed questions but I have a 9month old that sleeps most of the morning so I probably couldnt get to the zoo till about midday, so was just wondering if I could work it in somehow.:o :)

Okay just to chuck a spanner in the works.
I won't be coming to the zoo regardless cos I don't have small children.
But seeing as how there are so many interested and it's quite exxy.
How about hiring one of those mobile animal farms for a few hours to go to somebodys house, then you could all just bring a plate for morning tea, the kids could have a ball and you wouldn't have to worry about being out in public if they get tired, rowdy, naughty etc etc.
With regard to cost you could split it up evenly between the number of adults on the day, and I would guess that the most it would cost would be $30 (that's if only a few turned up, and of course the more that do turn up the cheaper it gets). And you were going to spend more than that on general entry anyway.
Just a thought, my brother had one at his sons birthday party and they're a huge hit, the kids can get right in with the animals and pat them, pick them up.
They'd have a ball, and the mums could sit and drink a coffee and chat all the while as well.
Maybe we should think about organising something like this for the kids as a christmas party and we could also hire a pony for kids rides.
Hi All
I actually really like Shelly's idea. Now that DD1 is at school I'm not sure I could spend the whole day or that I'd be forgiven if I go to the zoo without her  .
But I understand that its just not the same as tigers and monkeys :D . Keep us posted on when/where, I could take DD1 out of school? (maybe? I don't think DH would approve :D )
Cheers
yeah I was thinking we'd probably let toby have the day off....:)

Darn it Shelly, I was going to post the option the other day but didn't know it would look so good until I read your post !:D
That would beat the unpettable petting zoo !:D
Sounds good to me too but i'm not fussy either way.
I love the idea! My girls love the petting farms! I will even take the big brave step of offering my backyard - it is not the worlds' biggest yard but it is fenced, there is a decent undercover shade area and I live quite centrally (inner southside just off the freeway).
I have a date to suggest too.....even though she is a farm girl and probably doesn't need to see more animals...Jessie is back in town on March 10 - it is a Friday and she is staying that night and bringing Mickayla with her this time. We were going to arrange coffee with others anyway......so we could do it Friday afternoon that way school kids could come too....or Saturday morning when it is cooler. What do you think?
I suppose we could always do it in addition to the zoo?!
ooh ooh the petting zoo is better - cause I wanted to come (try and keep me away :p ) - but the idea of pushing a bored Jack around in his pram at the zoo (after paying 40 dollars to GET IN) - well.. it just WASN'T going to happen...
you're CLEVER shell :)
xx
Sounds great! Are you sure about the offer of the backyard though????
Excellent, lets do BOTH. DD1 is VERY excited (so we HAVE to do a petting zoo) count me in. Still pending on the zoo...
Theresa, I think a new thread is warranted, with a link from here.
Cheers

Okay - a petting farm thread it is......and yes I will offer my backyard, 'cause let's face it - we need one if we are going to do it!
I'm just butting in.. Nugget isn't old enough to enjoy a petting Zoo... BUT, Veve.. I like Ponies. :p
I still remember the sadness I felt when I was too big for the shetland :( the man let me have one last ride tho', and mum had to explain to me that it was going to be the last ever.
Hopefully I'll have Puk coming with me if that's alright

hi ladies,
with regards to the mobile farm option. I have Barnyard babies and a miniture shetland pony booked for my son's 3rd birthday. The price is (probably different for another area but i am in underwood) $395 for 2 hours. if you would like to see the different things you can get visit www.barnyardbabies.com.au they do brithday parties and events etc. they have day old chicks, goats, lambs, calf, ducklings, piglets etc, (all bubba ones too) the best thing is the kids can all feed the animals and i think it would be a great experience for them all. (I CANT WAIT TIL AUGUST NOW. LOL)
Oooh now I wanna see the barnyard babies!! I love teeny weeny baby animals....teeny weeny baby anythings really, lol :D
I'll get around to the thread soon - promise - just need to make a swimming pool birthday cake first...:o

I won't know until Monday when the birth centre 'hours' are
I am seriously thinking about doing a weekend retreat thingo - we have a local bus company that would bring you all up - would be great fun for your littlies (and DH's if they dared) - we could all go up to the property and 'camp out'
Red wine around the fire - groovy
I am defiantely offering my backyard sometime in the future!

99 bottles of formula on the bus,
99 bottles of formula
if one of them bottles should happen to fall
then theres gonna be one really stressed mother looking to kill somebody
lol, now that's poetic licence (not very good I'll grant but it's the best I can do at short notice)
never fear, the breastfeeding mothers are here to save the day....:p
KARAOKE!!!!! We have to do karaoke for our next dinner:D

Guess what my fav Karaoke number is?
Jessie I thought you were going??
Where did the zoo trip go?
I am not starting a petting zoo thread until we know when Jessie is coming to town 'cause if she isn't coming on the 10th I will move the date so that people can afford to do the animals and the dinner without a second mortgage.
I love a camping trip - just not sure if my kids will......only one way to find out though!
I have to go to bed - the 3 year olds birthday party in the morning. Cake made, party favours packed, list written, fingers stained the colours of the food colouring rainbow (should have worn gloves:o )....time for sleep.

is this gonna happen anytime soon ??
I really really wanna show Jack little ducks n stuff :yelclap:

Can I make a suggestion? Oh good (I love answering my own questions). Why don't we have a trip to the zoo for those who want and then we can organise a petting zoo for those who want that. There might be some who will do both while others will just pick one.
Having said that I will leave the organising of the big zoo trip to the original posters and will get myself organised early next week re the petting zoo idea (will get quotes etc before starting a thread.)
Yay zoo and petting zoo:smiliedance: :yelclap: :smiliedance: :yelclap:
