View Full Version : Ergo ergo ergo, now I understand
You've all carried on so much about the ergo recently, and Hamish was getting a bit hefty (8kg) in his hugabub, and has limited tolerance for the pram in the afternoons, so I got an ergo.
I put it on yesterday and went for a walk with Hamish, DH and our manic dog. We walked for over an hour, including up a couple of pretty steep hills. It never hurt me. My back and shoulders all felt fine the entire time, it wasn't even a relief to take it off. DS got a bit tetchy after about 40 minutes - but it was his cranky time of day, so I'm not worried about that.
Thank you everyone for your ergo appreciation threads, it makes carrying DS as easy as backpacking. Can't wait until his torso control is a bit better and he can be carried on my back. We tried it at home, but he was still a bit too bendy sideways to do it. He loved it though - gave him full access to his favourite toy - mum hair.
:yelclap:
That's great news bron.
We love our ergo too for all those reasons.

I have heard so many people rave about this carrier... Chuckie is very much a "pick me up baby", (as much as I am a "put them down mum" :D) and I think I might like to give one a try... where can you get them from?
I ordered mine on line from Greenkids. Posted the next day.

I got mine last week and I love it :smiliedance: the threads were all true the ergo is amazing I ordered mine from gear4baby.com.au for $145 with free postage and a free set of babylegs :smiliedance:
Ali - order yours from carryingaway.com - she is in Brisbane and you can go and pick it up and she will give you lessons in all of it's uses - a lovely, lovely person.
Bron - isn't it great??
Today I have hung out washing with DS on my back and yesterday did two hours of marketing and shopping with him on my back.
And yes - the access to the mummy hair from the back is the only downfall! (It did prompt my latest hair cut which is shorter at the back than the front!!)

Love my Ergo,
As soon as todelt yawns I put the hood up and he falls asleep within 2 minutes. Neither him or I are cuddly and didnt get it for the attachment parenting thing, more the practicality and comfort.

I love ours too. I'm a hugabub devotee too - but that ones about to get a new tenant, so the ergo is mostly for Sarah and her Dadda - though even 6 months pregnant I can carry Sarah for hours in it if needs be.
mwahahahaha
My plan is working! Soon the Ergo will take over the world!! !

Love, love, lovin' the Ergo too as does DH :) Can't wait to have another baby just so I can try out the newborn insert too!
You've all convinced me, I thought DH would be hard to convince though (I've already got the hugabub, a sling, and a borrowed baby bjorn) - so I got him to read a few posts and was allowed to order one yesterday!:smiliedance: So thanks!!

I just picked up a copy of the new Shop 4 Kids mag and they have 20% off the ERGO now!! Definitely reccomend one to anyone - makes carrying my DS soooo easy and comfy :)
I tried so many carriers - bjorn (horribly uncomfortable), hard frame backpack (just try chasing after an active 3 year old with one of those on your back! plus you have to lug it around wether DS is in or our of it) and a few others before someone pointed me in the direction of the ERGO and I'm so glad they did!!:goodvibes:

We love our Ergo too!!! Love the colour (black & tan... goes with everything). Only prob is DH is too broad across the shoulders & it dosn't fit him (& boy is he jealous!!!)
Eta - we got ours from Itti Bitti.

Well im not yet in the ergo club, but I am so convinced just by reading all the threads on this forum.
Ive got a hugabub and it makes my 6.7kg son fell like 4kgs!!
Can someone explain to me though what happens if they fall asleep in the ergo when your wearing them on the front? How is their head supported? Can you bend over like with the hugabub and not hold their head?
And whats the hood?

I've had mine for a week and love it - especially now I've worked out how to put DD2 on my back by myself. The only thing we haven't tried is her falling asleep in it. I can also wear her on the front with no problems - with the Baby Bjorn I had to stop using it as her legs were getting in the way when I walked when going up and down stairs.

My 10kg 15mo DD will only go to sleep when worn on the front (when on back I know it's time to switch to front for a sleep when she pulls my hair!). Once she's asleep you just pop the hood on which does support the head - not quite as well as the hugabub but it's good enough.
When she's on my front her head sits just under my chin so it is a little limited. In the hip carry I find her front leg gets in the way of me walking sometimes. But I guess that is the case with any hip carrier?
If you go to the babesinarms website you can get the discount by mentioning the Shop 4 Kids magazine ad.
cool..maybe ican use it for the next bub too;) That's what I say to justify my spending to DH!!!
Are you ttc?

DD2 fell asleep in it for the first time yesterday. It was a very exciting moment.
DS is now 12 months and 11 kg and he still loves his Ergo. Particularly loves being carried on DH's back. We went down south last week and went into a cave with him in it. Up and down lots of steps, over an hour, comfortable for everyone.
I also use it at the zoo, in the hip hold position, so he can see everything and interact with me. It's brilliant.

Go Bron! It is the best investment ever!
Just one hint: Do not go down a slide with it hanging down below your waste (ie, DD in lap). As you can guess, this is what I did (after a night of not much sleep). The arm strap got caught on the top of the slide and DD and I were stranded mid-slide. Quite funny really, except our weight wripped the ERGO! Agh! :hair: As you can imagine I was devistated, so I went straight to a tailor who fixed it who did a great job but managed to lose one side of the safety harnesses clipped mid-chest. Agh again! But lovely Alisa at ERGObaby in the States sent me a replacement for free. Yeah!
So the other day (sorry for the babble) I was looking after a friend's bub who was same age as DD (1 yr) and when they started to get tired I threw one in the ERGO and one in the pram and went for a walk. I returned with both asleep. The ERGO striked again! Woo hoo! :smiliedance:

So fantastic to go places that you cannot with a pram (not the slide though). We once did a tree top walk with DD on DH's back. :yelclap:

WOW!!! Never heard of the thing. We had my sisters old Papoose and loved it but it didn't hold DS for long enough for my liking. This hold up to 25kgs!!! Couldn't believe that when I read it. I'm certainly going to get one next time.

I love my Ergo to. Dh love to wear it as well.
They are a fantastic invention:yelclap:
My 7 week old came out and hung out the washing and fed the chooks in our new ergo today.
Then she fell asleep in it while we watched daddy play his new computer game.
She's not a baby who always wants to be held and usually fusses if in arms for too long, but seemed to like the ergo.
Can't wait till she's big enough to use it in the upright positions!
