View Full Version : 3 1\2 month old crying after feeding
for the past 2 weeks my child hes been crying after every feed . ive tryed longer feeds and shorter ones, bottle feeding expressed milk giving him the maximim amount and also giving smaller amounts. I burp him after every feed so there are no problems there, most of the time i have to give him the dummy to calm him down. i dont understand what is going on can anyone help me?

Only a guess but I would say wind or tummy pain.... could this be it? Are you eating anything different?
my little one will sometimes do this and i discovered that it is because she is tired, although if your baby is doing it after every feed it could be something else, does he settle after you give him the dummy? if he does i wouldnt worry to much about it but for your own peace of mind maybe see your doctor or babyclinic nurse :)

could it be reflux?
You don't necessarily get a vomit with reflux, sometimes just a bit of the stomach acid comes up and burns the oesphagus (sp??). Check it out with your health professional, things like keeping them upright after a feed and on a angle at night can help. Also some people recommend visting a cranial oesteopath as some babies necks can need adjusting after birth.
mmm good point mama felix, my stepdaughter had problems with her neck/spine, it could even be something like a sore ear (i have to keep checking my bubbas ear is not folded over and getting squished during a feed) maybe had to much to drink and got a bellyache? if only they could talk!!! :o
My son Jack did the exact same thing around the same time. I also tried all the things you mentioned and read everything I could get my hands on. I also called a breastfeeding helpline and in the end all I could come up with was that it was reflux. He wasnt much of a vomiter although he would do the odd small one. I used to catch him quite often doing a chewing/swallowing motioning (when he wasnt feeding) as if he was getting rid of some regurgitated milk. He also used to cough a bit which is also a sign. Although he was gaining weight no worries feeding time just became horrible as it would end with him crying, seemingly in pain so I took him to the Dr and told him all of the above. The doc gave him a general checkover and said he agreed that reflux seemed like the only thing it could be
He diagnosed a liquid medication called Zantac. It wasnt the miracle cure i'd hoped for but i think initially the dose was too low as the Dr guessed his weight as i hadnt had him weighed for a few weeks. We increased the dosage on the Dr's advice and it gradually improved/stopped. He turns 6 month next week and i've just started weaning him off the Zantac & so far so good!
Hope that helps.
